While it appears that there is no cure, there are things you can do to minimise your flareups of psoriasis symptoms. With an ongoing case of psoriasis, you are understandably in a great deal of discomfort and may in fact, be suffering both physically and mentally. Taking some extra measures can help you ease the symptoms that you are experiencing.

1. It is important that you stay in good health. Adopt a balanced diet, take in adequate amounts of water, and get proper amounts of sleep each night. When your immune system is strong, your body is better equipped to fight off any possible infection. Infection is one of the triggers for psoriasis symptoms.

2. You should also try to record your experience down. Maintain a journal about psoriasis flare-ups and what events, environmental factors or emotions preceded the flare-up (going back 2 or 3 weeks). Your records can help you and your doctor trace as to what the triggers to your psoriasis symptoms are.

3. You would also need to reduce your alcohol consumption because studies show that drinking too much can actually prevent treatment from being at its most effect. In fact, alcohol can also trigger a flare-up. If you are taking the medication methotrexate for your psoriasis symptoms, you should avoid alcohol altogether.

4. Do you notice that your psoriasis symptoms tend to worsen when you are under stress? If so, seek out relaxation techniques that can help you to keep calm. One great relaxation technique is meditation. Meditation is simply the practice of quietening your mind down in a peaceful environment.

5. Skincare regimens can help to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis like moisturizers. They prevent your skin from drying out. Dry skin creates a higher risk for breaks in the skin which can lead to flare-ups.

6. You can choose to soak in a warm oatmeal bath for about 10 minutes to ease from the discomfort of psoriasis . In your baths or showers, do not use water that is too hot. Instead, use it lukewarm.

7. Refrain from picking at lesions. The more you scratch the affected part of your skin, the greater the possibility of irritation, scarring and bacterial infections.

8. Always moisturize your skin during and in-between flare-ups. Moisturizing frequently is a good practice to keep your skin hydrated. It is best to use a cream or a lotion that is meant for psoriasis skin.

9. Use a humidifier whenever possible to reduce dry winter air. Dry air can dry out your skin and make your psoriasis symptoms worse.

10. Finally, it is important that you find some support in learning how to cope with your psoriasis symptoms better. Check with your dermatologist for tips that can help you manage. Also, joining support groups can also be helpful in relieving some mental stress and depression that is associated with this condition.
