6 tips for making your Christmas photos picture perfect

Built by Sherrie Le Masurier on Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Don’t wait for Christmas day to pull out your digital camera. Start capturing those special holiday moments today.

Following are some great tips for making your Christmas photos picture perfect.

Begin Early

Start taking digital photos of your children baking or your family decorating the tree. My motto is you can never have too many photographs.

Take Lots Of Photos

Since facial expressions change from one second to the next, take lots of digital photos in succession to capture just the right look.

Don’t Miss A Photo

If you don’t own a digital camera buy a few one-time use cameras and keep them where the action is. That way, you’ll have a camera handy whenever a photographic opportunity presents itself.

Keep Your Camera Warm

Camera batteries loose energy in freezing temperatures. If you’re outside in the cold, put your digital camera inside your coat. Also keep spare batteries in an inside pocket to keep them warm.

Shoot At Dusk

Exterior Christmas trees are difficult to photograph. Often they’re too dark or the lights and ornaments show up as dots of bright lights. Try photographing the tree just after sundown or on a cloudy day using 400 ASA film or a digital camera.

Avoid Red Eye

Red eye is a common problem when photographing people and pets. For starters, have the subjects look slightly away from the camera lens instead of directly at it. Turn on all the lights in the room and where possible, use a camera that has the flash placed well away from the lens.

Wishing you a great holiday season and many wonderful digital photo memories!
