A home business opportunity that is as close as your neighbor’s dog

The best home business opportunity may be right under your nose. If you have a love of dogs and the outdoors consider becoming a dog walker for busy pet owners.

Dog walking is one of the best home business ideas going if you leave in an area with lots of dogs and busy owners.

Advertise your new business via veterinary clinics, posters on local bulletin boards and by delivering calling cards door-to-door (punch out a hole and attach a dog biscuit with a red ribbon). References are also a plus in this business.

If your schedule is flexible promote that you will be available to walk dogs at odd hours and on short notice.

Once you have a prospective client take the time to visit with them and get to know their dog. Going for a walk with them on their usual route is often helpful as is keeping a record of each dog’s information including treat preference, fears, brand of dog food etc.

If your dog walking responsibilities include entering your client’s homes when they aren’t home you may wish to have a police check done and enter into a contract with the pet owner that states you have permission to enter their home. A 30 day trial period is also a good idea.

You might want to charge a flat fee of say $25 for enrolling the dog into your service and then a standard fee of $10 to $15 for each time you walk their dog.
