Adobe Acrobat Reader Voice

Built by Miguel A. on Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

In Adobe Reader 7.0 (and Acrobat), there is a tool under View called Read Out Loud. Yes, Reader has a built in voice.

As long as the PDF has recognized text (meaning you can use the binking cursor to select it), Reader will read the document to you top to bottom (columns are supported) in one of three voices. You can pick how fast it reads and the pitch of the voice under Edit\Preferences\Reading. My personal favorite is Michelle, pitch 6, 170 wpm.

I use this tool when I’m completely unmotivated to read a something that is in PDF form or too tired to concentrate. You can also use this to take notes in your favorite notes program while listening to the reader.
