Aloe Vera To Soothe Dry Eczema Skin

Built by Evelyn Lim on Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Dry eczema skin is a common manifestation of eczema in children and, less frequently, in adults. It tends to be very itchy. Perhaps you have tried the conventional medication such as moisturisers and steroid creams, but you were not satisfied with the results. If you or your child is among these patients, you may want to follow the alternative route: treating dry eczema skin with Aloe Vera.

The fluids in Aloe Vera form a thin film on the surface of your skin. These gum resins have hydrating thus moisturising, as well as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. The moisturising ability of Aloe Vera, with its attendant ability to soften and heal tissue, is its most well-known characteristic. Aloe Vera penetrates to the inner layers of the skin, supplying moisture directly to the underlying tissue.

A study conducted by Dr. Peter Atherton, one of the leading authorities on Aloe Vera in the UK, found that Aloe Vera works mainly on two areas, on repairing epithelial tissue and on boosting the immune system. The skin, the largest organ in the body, is also the largest patch of epithelial tissue. It is thus easy to understand why Aloe Vera hastens healing of burns or dry eczema skin, as well as mouth or stomach ulcers, or a problematic bowel lining; all of which are epithelial tissues.

The skin quality of those patients who have been treated with Aloe Vera for a number of skin problems including dry eczema skin have been found to improve, feeling smoother and softer. You may know this empirically, as it is well known that Aloe Vera is an added ingredient in many cosmetic preparations due to its rejuvenating action.

There are several reasons for this. First, it has complex sugars, or polysaccharides, that moisturise and hydrate the skin. Secondly, aloe is quickly absorbed into the skin, where it triggers fibroblasts to replicate faster; the fibroblasts produce the collagen and elastin fibres that give greater elasticity to skin, making it less wrinkled. It also has a cohesive effect on the top-layer epidermal cells, making skin smoother.

You can take Aloe Vera as a nutritional health drink, or you can apply a topical preparation, such as creams and lotions, to the skin. You should try using Aloe fresh from the plant, but remember it oxidises quickly upon exposure to air. If you can get a mature plant, cut a leaf, slice it lengthwise, and apply the gel directly. If you can only get a preserved product, try one that’s as close to the natural plant as possible, to ensure that it will work effectively on your dry eczema skin.

Hi Evelyn! I like your post, it’s very good. You have given very good information about Aloe Vera and it’s usefulness to Soothe Dry Eczema Skin. My child was suffering with Dry Eczema Skin and I applied him Aloe Vera gel, by this skin is now soft and itch less. There was a very good and quick result of it. And I even heard that Aloe Vera juice is too healthy for eyes which make eyes sharp and bright. Thanks for the post.

  2. Thanks! Will pass this on to my husband. He has dry skin and I think eczema and we have an aloe vera plant so this is a perfect home remedy to try... I came across your site just looking at eczema pictures to see if it really was eczema and your site came up.

The Made from Earth Pure Aloe Skin Treatment is GREAT for dry and/or sensitive skin. I used to get eczema-like rashes on my face during winter time. This cream has solved the problem completely. It is absorbed by the skin very quickly, there's no greasy residue. If you are prone to acne breakouts this cream will also work for you since the aloe has astringent properties. My sister who is prone to acne used it for her dry skin, and her skin looked AMAZING. Its amazing what a bit of pure aloe can do for your face. I recommend this from the Made from Earth product line.

I love the Made from Earth "Pure Aloe Treatment". It's amazing. Here's a little story: Last summer was the first summer I noticed the beginning of sun damage. I worshipped the sun from the ages of 13-25. Being from a cold climate in the winter, I often enjoyed months of tanning booths. Even though I tan very easily and darken fast, I also freckle. I am part Italian (the dark skin part) and Irish (the freckle part). During my second pregnancy, I developed something called a pregnancy mask. All around my cheekbones were dark patches and my freckles darkened everywhere as well. Since I am still nursing, the dark spots have returned this summer. I thought about getting a chemical peel from the doctor, but decided to try different face products first. I have always been a huge fan of finding new skin products. Over the years, I have bought and tried so many anti-aging items. I clearly did not want to show my age or let sun damage get the best of me. I am 36 years old and have no wrinkles at all; however I do have the discoloration in my skin, thanks to my crazy hormones. I came upon the Made from Earth PURE ALOE TREATMENT by typing in 'harmful chemicals in skincare' in the Google search. I read the reviews and thought I would try this out. I am so glad I did. I use the Pure Aloe Treatment(works wonders, still have no signs of crow's feet)and I noticed instant moisture to my face. Since I'm a stay at home mom, I apply this stuff all day long. I had instant results, as my face looked healthy and not dull. My discoloration started to fade and coloring all over has improved greatly. Also, since I don't have any wrinkles on my face, I could not know if this was great for wrinkles. However, I do get morning creases on my chest (you know.. when you sleep on your side and you wake up in the morning with a big crease between your chest). I apply this on my upper chest at night and the creases do not show up in the morning. My entire skin looks like it has taken a big glass of milk. Looks dewy and fresh. I love this stuff and will try out the rest of the Made from Earth product line. On top of that, the company that sells this line is very nice and has top customer service.
