An Inside Look At RV Aluminum Mini Blinds

Built by John Roberts on Friday, December 14th, 2007

I love our RV, we I it very regularly and I have found it to be a enjoyable way to travel. However, I have one grievance about it. I totally disliked the day/night shade that we had bought with our RV. It looked like that they were not able to regulate the correct amount of light shining through the windows. I was not sure what I should do to replace them so I did some research and found that a very practical way to rectify the situation was to get RV aluminum mini blinds.

What lead me toward this decision were a couple of very important properties of RV aluminum mini blinds. Firstly, these blinds are created from thin aluminum slats. They are either made from 6 or 8 gauge aluminum. My personal preference is the 8 gauge; it will deal with the wear and tear better. Most companies that offer RV aluminum mini blinds give you several color choices; the color uses a baked-on enamel finish. You can also select the width of the slats; they are offered in three widths from 1/2″, 1″ to 2″.

With the day/night shades I could never get the right amount of light. For example, the entire RV would light up at sunrise and I wanted it to remain darker for longer. With the RV aluminum mini blinds it stays dark until I am ready to get up and draw them. They come with child safety cords and they are scratch resistant. One other nice thing about them is they are also kink resistant. Installing them was very easy to do. Just make sure that you measure the window accurately. Each creator offers specific measuring details so make sure you follow their advice.

I love the difference that our RV aluminum mini blinds have made but there are 2 little drawbacks with them. First, they do make some noise when you are raising and lowering them. It is not a lot of noise, they just aren’t completely quiet. They also do not provide any insulation for your RV so if that is important to you, you may want to add a curtain with them.

When I was shopping for our mini blinds I found that most shops are within a few dollars of each other when it came to pricing stock RV aluminum mini blinds. If you need to have them custom made then you can expect to invest anywhere from 25%-50% more than stock aluminum mini blinds. For a standard sized blind 36″ wide X 60″ in height you can expect to invest between $34 to $47. The 1/2″ blinds run more and average $54 for the same size. I found my 2″ blinds for $60.

I have found for the small investment I made to replace our window treatments we are much happier with our RV aluminum mini blinds. They give us the ability to regulate the amount of light we want and they are great for privacy.
