Are you gassy?

Built by Perriann Rodriguez on Thursday, February 7th, 2008

As we age, our bodies are constantly changing and adapting to what we eat. Sometimes food products that have never given us any trouble suddenly make us feel bad.

Do you know what kinds of foods cause gas?

There are some carbs that are known for causing gas. The secret is to isolate the cause of gas and cut down or eliminate the offending carb.

The 3 areas of carbs guilty of causing gas are sugars, starches and fiber. Sugars can be found in milk, beans, cheese, ice cream, breads, cereals, etc. If you have been having a lot of these items, you may want to cut back for a few days and see what happens.

Offending starches include potatoes, corn, noodles and wheat. Fiber includes beans, peas, most fruits and oat bran.

Just because you have eaten some of these foods your whole life with no problems doesn’t necessarily rule them out for causing problems in the future! I used to be able to eat an entire large bag of peanut M&M’s, an entire bag of Doritos with absolutely no problems. If I ate that now, I don’t think I would feel so great.
