The science-fiction epic ‘Avatar’ surged to a box office hit of more than $ 1 billion globally as of Sunday, the fastest ever reported than in any other movie in history.
“It was the fastest ever to the 1 billion-mark,” said box office analyst Chad Hartigan of Exhibitor Relations as told to AFP.
“Avatar” released by 20th Century Fox and directed by James Cameron, tells the story of a paralyzed war veteran Jake, who is sent on a mission to planet Pandora, where he falls in love with a blue humanoid character Neytiri, played and voiced by Zoe Saldana. James Cameron’s latest masterpiece after the 1997 Oscar-winner “Titanic,” became the most expensive film ever made, estimated of up to $500 million.
