Back to school for parents too

Built by Robin Dary on Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Ahh, back to school time. Leaves changing and weather cooling off. January 1 shouldn’t be the new year. It should at back to school time. It’s fresh start for all the kids and how long were you an adult before you lost track of Sepetember as a back to school feeling?

Why lose that feeling? Why not consider a class, new hobby, or finally start that MBA?

Kids learn from what we do more often that what we say. The old saying that actions speak louder than words rings so true when it comes ot children.

Get them inspired for schol by watching you. Is there a class you want to take? It can be a toward a degree or certification or just a simple hobby class.

Community colleges often have “leisure time” programs. Just fun or college type classes that are cheaper and not towards a degree.

Hobby stores offer plenty of class variety. You can take cake decorating, knitting, furniture upholstery and basic sewing.

Most rec centers offer classes too. The one near me offers salsa dance, photography, weight lifting, computers, and plenty more.

If your kids see you in a life long pursuit of knowldege think of what a great impact that has on them. They’ll see learning as fun and something that is never done.

Yes, a lot of these ideas are more fun than the algebra class or history class your child may be struggling with but it does show them options. And it shows them that you are a student too.

Hmm, can I justify a back to school shopping trip out of a knitting class at the rec center?

Back to school!
