For years campers and hikers have struggled to carry enough water along with them for an extended stay. If you've picked up just one package of bottled water, you know just how heavy it can be, and you can imagine trying to carry enough clean water along for a ten-day stay. It doesn't matter where in the United States you go, because you're still going to need a way to provide yourself with the water that's essential to your health. It's estimated that 90% of the water sources in our country are contaminated with dangerous toxins. Now that we've ruled out both bottled and local water, we need another safe alternative, and that is a mobile water purification system.

Katadyn offers water filters that you'll be able to carry with you no matter where your travels take you. There are both small, lightweight filters and models that are designed to produce a larger quantity of water. The filters are made to remove harmful elements such as cysts, spores, protozoa, bacteria, algae, and metals from any source of H2O. The water that they produce will give you a substantially cleaner result as well as a better taste than will low tech options, such as iodine.

Some of the Katadyn water filters you might like to consider are:

* The Katadyn Mini Microfilter is one of the most lightweight devices available. It is both lightweight and small enough to be carried along with you. This ultra compact device can filter 2,000 gallons of H2O at a rate of half a quart each minute. It contains a silver-impregnated ceramic filter that is designed to give you a lot of service without needing to be replaced. It will remove protozoa and bacteria from any nearby water source.

* Katadyn Hiker Microfilter is considered an entry-level product which means it's popular with hikers and campers everywhere because of its affordable price. It is intended for use by 1-2 people and is lightweight enough to carry with you. In it, water is filtered using a 0.3 micron glassfiber activated carbon granulate filter that is capable of filtering as much as a quart per minute. It also requires little maintenance to keep it functioning perfectly.

* A Katadyn Hiker Pro Microfilter offers you all the technology of the Hiker model and adds a removable filter protector to add extra use to the carbon filter cartridge. By hooking the unit up to a camelback water bladder, you can produce all the water you need for longer hiking, biking, and camping excursions.

Whatever types of outdoor activities you enjoy, you no longer need to worry about having as much clean, fresh water as you need. By purchasing one of these Katadyn filtering units, you can carry your water supply with you or produce it on site.

When you send your teen off to college, the list of items he or she needs to take to furnish their dorm room can be staggering. Unlike the good-old-days when kids headed for college with a suitcase, today's student needs more than just clothes. He needs all the technological gadgets he's come to depend on, a flat-screen TV, a loft bed and other furniture, a microwave, and other things he just can't live without. One item that most college-bound students don't stop and think about is taking a portable water filter cup. With the cost of bottled water and the aspersion being cast concerning the cleanliness of municipal water, it's the only feasible alternative.

Kids today drink a lot more water than previous generations did. That's because they were raised knowing the health benefits of drinking substantial amounts of H2O. We used to assume that wherever we went the water would be clean; however, since that isn't the case any longer, it's better to be safe than sorry. Even after municipal water treatment, a variety of contaminants can remain in the water. These include dangerous bacteria, parasites, mercury, pestisides, nitrates, rust, herbicides, cysts, and lead. Not every water system is going to contain all of these elements, but without a lot of research, there's no way to know the problems with the water in the area the college is in.

When you go out to look at water filters, you'll find a lot of different types of devices. If you've scoped out what your teen's dorm room is going to be like, for instance, during orientation, then you probably already know that he or she is going to be living in a very small space and will likely be co-habitating with at least one other person. Space in most dorm rooms is at a premium, so you don't want to buy a large system for producing clean water. What you want is something small and lightweight enough for your student to carry in a backpack. Most likely the best option will be to buy a filtered drinking cup or sports bottle.

Don't just go buy any cheap model off the shelf. Cheap filters won't filter out all of the dangerous components in the water, and their filters will need to be changed often. Instead, invest in something that is going to be more durable and need less upkeep. You know most kids! They aren't the most organized people in the world, so making their drinking system as simple as possible is always a good plan. An easy device with a gravity-fed filtering system will take care of the pollutants and give you some peace of mind.

Water storage in preparation for times of disaster seems like a pretty straight forward concept. After all, it's a simple matter to buy some bottled water and stash it in the basement. If you stop and think about it, though, you are bound to formulate some questions that you really don't know the answer to. How much water should you keep in storage? What is the best way to store it? How long can water supplies be stored before they need to be replaced? You will find the answers to all these questions and more in this article.

As far as the amount of water you should have stored, the bottom line is that you can never have too much water if a disaster should happen. You will need to keep plenty on hand so that each family member will be able to drink what they need and to keep reasonably sanitary at a time when bacteria and viruses can run rampant. In addition, you'll need water for cooking, basic laundry, and to clean any wounds someone in your family may have sustained. The rule of thumb is that you should stash a gallon of water per family member per day. You should also plan to keep enough water for 7 – 21 days on hand. For a family of four, this can mean anywhere from 28 to 84 gallons of water.

The correct method of storage is another area where people just don't have enough knowledge. If you took a poll of the general public, most would tell you that they just store water in the plastic jugs they buy it in, or else they store tap water in plastic milk jugs. Since the plastic in these jugs is a permeable substance, it means that bacteria and other contaminants are able to get in through the pores to affect the water. For instance, if you sit the jugs on the concrete floor of your garage, substances such as paints, oils, exhaust, and pesticides can permeate the plastic to contaminate your water. Heat and light can also promote dysentery germ growth which can make your family sick.

The proper way to store water is using a “Water Preserver” which is a container that the EPA approves for long-term storage of emergency water. This barrel-like device kills all of the bacteria that tries to grow in the water and gives you safe drinking water for as long as 5 years. The preserver is used in conjunction with safe plastic containers that are designed for long-term use. These containers are made of opaque plastic, and they are equipped with airtight caps.

As with everything else, there's a right way and a wrong way to store water. Knowing how to do it correctly can mean life or death for the members of your family should a disaster situation occur.

There are a lot of concerns that are being faced by the 20,000,000 Americans who still rely on private wells for their water. Since these resources aren't regulated by government the way that municipal water is, there is good reason for this concern. Well water can contain everything from bacteria, to chemicals, to harmful metals. Many people don't realize this, because they believe that well water is naturally fresh and pure. Unfortunately, most of our groundwater has become contaminated by industrial and farm runoffs and other substances which then are brought to the earth's surface in wells. If you have a well, you are the only one who is going to be responsible for the quality of your water.

One water problem that most people are aware of is hard water. While this isn't dangerous for human consumption, it can cause numerous problems in your household. Maybe your laundry soap isn't lathering up the way it should. Hard water can cause that. Maybe you notice a brown crust that forms around water faucets and drains. This is also from hard water, and you need to understand that if you're seeing a build-up around your taps, it's also happening in your pipes, boilers, water heaters, and any other plumbing in your house.

Some well owners are aware of a problem due to the fact that their water has a nasty taste or smell or funny or cloudy color. If you're facing this concern, it would be a good idea to look into installing some type of water purification equipment. Things you can smell, taste, and see are indicative of the presence of foreign substances, some of which can be toxic. It will probably be a good idea for you to get expert advice in learning what types of contaminants you're dealing with so that you'll be able to purchase the proper equipment to eradicate them.

Even if your well water looks, smells, and tastes fine, there still may be danger lurking within its crystal clearness. Many chemicals are there is small enough quantities so as to not be immediately dangerous. However, consuming them over long periods of time can result in health issues. Once again, you would be wise to have your well tested so that you can deal with the toxins that are present. A filtration expert will be able to lead you to the perfect water filtering device to transform your water into something you can feel safe to use.

Have you heard about the problems people are having with their tap water and wondered if you should be doing something about the water in your own home? You're not alone in your speculations. Most people just don't have the expertise it takes to test their water and then decide on the best type of filtration devices to install to take care of their own particular problems. Many don't know that there are experts available to help them solve their problems. Hiring a water filtration expert can give you a lot of peace of mind and provide your family with an unending supply of clean, fresh water.

If you've ever taken the time to look at various filtration devices, you already know that the information provided with the units can cause you to become even more confused. Your municipal water company is required to make a test outlining the chemicals in your public water available to you, but even then you may not understand exactly what type of chemicals and contaminants you're fighting. Selecting a highly-qualified, licensed filtration expert can be a challenge, but when you find the right person, you'll be able to get to the bottom of your water concerns right away.

Experts specialize in various types of water systems. The person you choose will vary depending on whether your water comes from the municipal treatment plant or from your own well. You'll definitely want to choose one that knows how to deal with waterbourne diseases since those will affect your family most. This person will perform tests on your water to see what substances are present. After isolating the various trouble spots, he or she will be able to advise you about the type of water filtration that will best address them.

There are many different types of water filtration devices to choose from. They range from units that use reverse osmosis, distillation, ultraviolet, and carbon filtration systems. Your expert should be well-versed on each type of system and able to give your information concerning the pros and cons of each method. You will need to trust this expert to give you advice not only on the best system for your needs but also the one that will give you the best service for the money you're paying.

You may have chosen a water filtration expert who can actually install the system for you. If not, don't attempt the installation yourself. The company who manufactures and sells the unit you've chosen will be able to hook you up with someone trained in the installation of their products. This service will cost you a bit more, but it will be worth it in the long run.

I was the master. In the past 2 years I kept the title for the best record April Fools’ joke ever. It happened a couple of years back when I informed my parents that I was getting married to a person they didn’t believe was a particularly perfect match for me, a year after an initial 15 year marriage that ended in separation and divorce. They went ballistic (as I expected they would) and started to tell me that this marriage was a big mistake. They said it was too soon and that my thinking was impaired. I kept the fun going by improving the drama. I responded by stating that after all I had been through, I could not believe that they weren’t completely happy for me and that their negative reaction was taking away all of my excitement during this happy event. My parents stopped short of booking their flights to Toronto to hit some sense into me. And for that stroke of genius I was crowned master.

Until April 1, 2007.

We were in Montreal visiting loved ones to celebrate Passover. My kids had stayed up quite late the night before and woke upon that day a bit slow and cranky. After our morning meal, my son, Louis went to the washroom to clean up and prepare for the day. I was in the kitchen area assisting my mother clear the dishes from breakfast when I heard a familiar holler, “Mom, I’m not really feeling well.”

My maternal intuition kicked in immediately as I hurried to the washroom and opened the door. The odor was enough to knock me over. There he sat wincing; his face clearly showing severe stomach pain. He said, “Mom, I don’t feel well. My stomach is hurting and I can’t find any toilet tissue. I need your help.” As I approached, he pulled out his arm and showed his hand covered in a disgusting orange-brown textured goo.

I was taken aback. I took his arm desperately looking for some sort of tissue to begin cleaning the mess and said, “Oh my God! What happened?”

He said, “I’m so sorry Mom, I did not know what to do. My stomach is really hurting. I need your assistance.” My heart went out to him in every way. I could really feel his pain and his embarrassment and felt pleasure that I was the one he could turn to for assistance in this kind of crisis. After all … that’s what mothers are for.

Just then he reached down (with his other hand) and revealed the chocolate bar wrapper that he had used as evidence of his April Fools’ trick. I was impressed by his ability to reel me in emotionally and by his crafty execution. They say the acorn does not fall far from the tree. I guess I deserved it – the master had been dethroned!

There is a great deal of buzz surrounding the term “Human Growth Hormone” or “HGH” these days. Long understood for its role in human growth and development, HGH has recently begun to be recognized for its regenerative and anti-aging properties.

Exciting new research points to the use of HGH in the reduction of wrinkles, weight loss, memory improvement, libido enhancement, and more. But is the hype really true?!? The answer is: It depends. Let’s have a look at what Human Growth Hormone actually is – and how it can be used for its regenerative properties.

What Is Human Growth Hormone?

Human Growth Hormone, or HGH, is a hormone that is secreted from the pituitary gland (located at the base of your brain, near the front). It stimulates human growth and cell reproduction and regeneration. As you age, your body naturally produce less HGH. You are no longer growing (like when you were a child or teenager) , so you no longer need to generate as many new cells on a regular basis.

And that’s fine. But the loss of HGH is also what makes you age.

That’s because HGH is not only responsible for skin cell growth; it also governs other bodily functions such as your metabolism, brain function, sexual responsiveness, ability to heal, muscle growth, weight loss, memory, and more. Notice that all of the bodily functions governed by HGH are the areas that begin to suffer as you age.

For example, as HGH levels drop, your skin tone deadens, wrinkles appear, and skin slackens. That’s because you no longer have the skin cell regeneration power of your youth. As HGH levels continue to drop, you don’t sleep as well anymore. You notice a decrease in your sex drive. That is a direct result of shifting hormone levels, plus changes in blood pressure and skin sensitivity – all of which are governed by HGH.

… Your muscle tone diminishes as your body begins to store more fat. This is due to decreased cell production and a reduced metabolic rate.

… Your clarity of thought and memory begin to suffer. Again, this is due to the slower rejuvenation of cells, this time in your brain.

The fact is, HGH directly and indirectly affects almost every part of your body. Now, let’s discuss methods of replacing HGH in your body to counteract some of the affects of the aging process.

Harnessing the Power of HGH

There are three treatment options for using HGH to counteract the effects of aging.

1) First, HGH can be injected into the patient. This is an effective treatment method, but injections don’t last long and must be repeated often, rendering this method extremely expensive and inaccessible to most people.

2) Second, HGH can be ingested. This, however, is highly ineffective since HGH is incompatible with the digestive system and cannot be processed by your body.

3) Third, and most reliable, is a method of stimulating your body to produce its own HGH. This method is effective because a blend of proteins, amino acids, herbs, and other nutrients work together to target the anterior pituitary gland, causing it to produce and secrete more HGH into your body.

The result is that your body functions begin to improve and work like that of a much younger person. To find out more about how you can stimulate the production of HGH in your body and combat wrinkles, muscle loss, weight gain, a lagging libido, and the many other ailments of aging, go to SytropinSpray.org.

The majority of us have grown up drinking water provided by our municipal water treatment plants. We have the attitude that since it never hurt our parents and grandparents, it's not going to hurt us, either. Sadly, this is no longer true. Whereas the water previous generations received via their taps was relatively clean, this is not the case any more. Experts estimate that over 2100 chemicals are present in America's drinking water, and bottled water is no safer. We're being forced to consider installing some type of water purification systems in our own homes if we want to be safe.

Drinking the water isn't the only problem. When you cook with it, the contaminants transfer into your food. Showering with it allows the chemicals to soak through the pores of your skin, and the heat in the water turns the chlorine added to make the water safer into chloroform. Then think about what might happen when you do the laundry using this water, wash your hands, or clean fresh fruits and vegetables. All in all, you and your family are getting a hefty dose of water-bourne chemicals, bacteria, and other pollutants each and every day.

Do you think that bottled water is going to solve some of your problems? Think again! Studies done all over the world have found that the clear, clean-looking water in those plastic bottles contains substances such as pain medications, fertilizers, and the byproducts of disinfection. In fact, these studies revealed that there isn't much difference between the water in the bottles and the stuff that comes from your tap. With bottled water, however, we end up with an overabundance of plastic bottles in our landfills which makes it an ecologically unsound practice.

Okay, so you've eliminated municipal and bottled water from your list of options. Is it any safer to drink well water? The answer is “no”! So many chemicals leech into our groundwater that even the water in wells, which you might expect to be clean and fresh as the pioneers did, contains unsafe substances. However, there is a way to make both municipal and well water safe again.

Installing a home water filtration system will remove as many as 55 additional unsafe contaminants from your water supply. You want to find a system that is UL approved, and you don't want to skimp on the product you purchase. Cheaper systems aren't designed to remove all the particles that need to be eliminated, but you still can't assume that just because a unit costs more it will be more effective. You need to do some online research to determine which type of filter is going to protect your family's health most efficiently and economically.
