Choosing Backyard Playground Designs

As summer stretches on, most parents hear their kids complain of boredom. If you’re tired of hearing this and want to provide some entertainment for your kids, think about building a swingset or other playset. You’ll be able to entertain your children, keep them active, and save some money over buying a kit and having it professionally installed. Here are some things to think about when deciding which backyard playground design you want to build.

First, think about your budget. There are lots of elaborate playsets out there, but they can cost a lot – up to several thousand dollars. While everyone wants to have a top of the line adventure set for their children, most budgets won’t allow it. Decide what you’ll spend in advance, so you can choose a plan or kit that works with your budget.

Next, think about the skills you have available. You’ll need to be able to measure accurately, cut, drill holes and use nails and screws to build your own swings. If you’re not comfortable with assembling your own set, it’s probably better to talk to an expert. You can either buy a kit and have it installed, or take a few classes at your local home improvement store to gain more confidence. Check the tools you’ll need, too. They can cost a lot to acquire if you don’t already have them.

You’ll also need to make sure that you have quality swing set plans – your plans can make all the difference. While there are good free swing set plans out there, you’ll need to make sure they have everything you need to build your playground included. Make sure they’re specific, include clear drawings, and tell you everything you need to do, step by step. If you aren’t able to find any free swing set plans that live up to this, be willing to spend a little to buy a commercial set. It’ll be worth it in the end, when you’re able to build a playset that lasts and goes up easily.

Once you have a good set of plans, don’t skip steps. While some of them might seem unnecessary, you should follow all instructions exactly, especially safety precautions. You’re trying to safely build the best swings you can. If your kids are involved in the project, make sure they stay in a safe area, and perform jobs with no risk, like handing you nails.

Picking out the right backyard playground designs to build your own swingset can make summers a lot less boring for your kids. They’ll stay active and have a lot of fun. Just be sure to get the right plans and build everything as well and safely as you can.
