Collaborate with other Nonprofit Organizations for Successful Fundraising

Built by Amy Passmore on Friday, June 30th, 2006

If your nonprofit organization doesn’t have the resources, personnel or experience

necessary to carry out a large scale fundraising event, consider collaborating with

other groups in your community.

I recently read an article about three nonprofit organizations in North Lake Tahoe, California that collaborated on a fundraising golf tournament.

This was the first collaborative event they had held and it turned out to be very successful and exceeded their expectations. The three organizations collaborated on a Golf Fore Education fundraiser. There was a golf tournament, food, an auction, and a raffle.

As you can imagine it would take a lot of work to produce an event such as this. The organizations were the Incline School Academic Excellence Foundation (ISAEF), Project MANA, and the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

The tournament organizers reported that they spent less personal time, less organization resources, and felt less stress over the event. And, they raised all the money they hoped to.

The three organizations came together because they are members of the Parasol Community Foundation in Lake Tahoe. Community foundations exist in most cities or counties in the United States. Their main purpose is to coordinate the distribution of grants from endowments to organizations within the community. The Parasol Community Foundation also encourages collaborations and brings together nonprofit organizations.

So, you may want to investigate the possibilities of collaborating with other nonprofit organizations in your community. I haven’t written before about community foundations and I plan to go into more detail about them in my next blog post.
