Have you ever sat back and thought about what you put your body through every day?
Our bodies were built to seamlessly work for us. Our big brains think of something that needs to be done, and our bodies do it. Now, how often do we pay attention to what our body needs?
The incredible machine that is our body actually is pretty easy to maintain and will run for a long time if it is properly maintained. Our bodies need air, water, healthy food, movement and rest. We almost never have to even think about where and how to get air into our bodies, our breathing is set on automatic. Water is very important, and all we have to do is dump clean water into the reservoir a couple times a day and our body decides where to use it, some for the brain, or maybe for circulation, or to cool us down in the form of sweat. In fact our body even conserves water and recycles it without us even thinking about it. Food is very important but all we need to do is again get a good variety of fresh foods and the body breaks it all down and uses the parts wherever it needs, for bones, nerves, skin, or muscle. Rest is easy enough to, we just need to get our bodies to a quiet comfortable place and we automatically shut down and our bodies rejuvenate for the next day.
All of these processes are done easy enough if we give our bodies enough time and supplies to do what it needs to do. But what about movement?
Movement and motion of the body is essential to its health, longevity, and ability to work and play.
Motion strengthens bones, builds and maintains muscle, strengthens the heart, brings in more clean oxygen, feeds the brain, and keeps the joints healthy. Without proper movement of each joint in the arms, legs, neck and back or bodies slowly start to deteriorate and fall apart.
Our society today is not built to support healthy body movement. Desks, computers, TV’s, video games, cell phones, smart phones, and cars are built to work our eyes and parts of our brains but not our bodies. Our bodies are slowly losing the good motion they need to stay healthy, and we hardly even realize it. The only sign may be that your neck or low back are tired at the end of the day or your shoulders are tired.
When was the last time you looked at the ceiling? Over your left and right shoulders? How about touching your head to your right and left shoulders? If any of these you haven’t done in a while or they are painful then you are beginning to lose natural movement abilities of your body.
What can be done? Of course get out and start doing activities that require you to move your arms, legs, neck and back. Start out easy and with something you enjoy so that you keep with it. The next step is to go see your chiropractor. Chiropractic is designed to find joints in the body that are not working and to get them moving again. When the joints move like they should then the nerves are happy and the body gets out of pain and is happy.
