Millions of Americans do not have medical insurance and must pay for costly surgery or medical procedures out of their own pocket. Even people that have insurance worry about having to pay a certain percentage of medical bills from expensive operations.

There is a new website, www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov that lets you check out the prices for major operations, procedures; and also to find out the Medicare reimbursement rate and most importantly, find out the hospitals safety and success record for various surgeries.

I was very surprised to learn some of the prices for surgery. How exactly is someone without medical insurance (and some with insurance) supposed to pay these high prices? Maybe we are supposed to work out a payment plan or something–like you agree to pay the hospital a few thousand dollars every month for the rest of your life.
