Countdown to Christmas

Built by Florita Wilhelm on Monday, December 17th, 2007

With kids in the house, one is constantly reminded of the number of days before Christmas. The excitement of receiving a lot of presents from friends and relatives builds up each and every passing day. Each day, as Christians, we as parents try to remind the kids to remember that the meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ, and that’s why the day is called Christmas.

We also remind the children that it is not just a day of receiving presents, it is a day to be thankful for our friends and relatives and everything we have. It is also a time to think of other people who are less fortunate than ourselves. It is also a time to give. We are grateful for schools and the teachers that organize food drives. The kids bring canned goods to donate for the poor and homeless. When we sit the kids down, it is usually to calm them down from too much excitement. These days are the busiest days of the year, and sometimes, it gets too stressful dealing with traffic, our jobs, the cold weather, things to do, cards to write, presents to buy, and planning the Christmas meal. So, when we sit down the kids, it is also to remind us the real meaning of the holiday season.

Here’s a tip for those that haven’t gotten anything for a loved one that has everything. Go online and order flowers. The winter greens last for a long time and gives out a pleasant christmas smell, and most of the christmas flowers last at least a week. After the holidays, there is nothing to put away in the closet or garage except for a small floral container. Go green this year, order a live plant that can be planted outdoors when the weather improves.
