Creative Labs Xtreme Fidelity has a much needed driver update available.
The original drivers offered fantastic sound from their latest range of cards. Naturally the first thing you tend to do it look for the latest updates. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the September drivers where deeply flawed and muted the sound. It also did horrible things to the volume controls.
Anyway, the latest update – classed as critical – fixes all the flaws and gives it a boost besides, one more justifying the ‘X’ for of ‘X-Fi’ So much so that music and games that needed to be set at 75% to be reasonably audible now blast out my speakers at a mere 10%.
If you see any bad reviews for this card, assume they used the first set of updates, because with the December patches it is firmly back on top!
