Diabetes – Do you know the signs?
According to the American Diabetic Association, 8% of the population has diabetes. 24% of the people with diabetes are undiagnosed – meaning they don’t even know they have diabetes.
With such a large number of undiagnosed cases of diabetes, it is so important to know all the warning signs and indicators that one might be diabetic.
Do you know what these 6 warning signs are?
Most people assume that if there is no one in their immediate family with diabetes that they are clear of any risks. This is not true. All you need is for someone in your immediate family to have the genetic disposition for diabetes for you to be at risk for type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is more closely associated with poor lifestyle choices and being overweight.
The 6 common warning signs for diabetes are as follows:
1. Extreme thirst
2. Frequent urination
3. Constant hunger
4. Unusually tired
5. Weight loss
6. Blurry vision
Of course any of these signs alone can be indicative of other health problems. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should visit your medical doctor for a full blood glucose workup. The quicker you start managing your blood sugar, the healthier you will be and the more likely you will avoid any of the complications associated with diabetes.
Blood glucose testers are readily available at any drugstore or pharmacy. They are affordable pieces of equipment that will help you to monitor your blood sugar levels. Find out what your risk is for diabetes

My grandma had type 1 diabetes, and died from a heart attack from diabetes. I have 2 of the 6, but symptoms, #2, and#3, I am only 11 years old, but grandma got it when she was 9, and had 4 heart attacks in her life. I was just wondering if I have diabetes, and I didn’t have constant hunger until a few years after she died. My mom doesn’t have it. I was 7 when grandma died, grandma was 56, and mom was 33. Please tell me if I have diabetes, or not. Thank you for your time, and consideration!
