When I go to the movies, I have to have popcorn. Several times I have thought to myself that I wouldn’t buy popcorn this time, only to go get some at the last minute before the movie starts.
It just goes with movies. The movie experience is not as good if you don’t have popcorn. Yes I know about all the calories, etc. in popcorn. I usually adjust my calories during the day to accommodate all those extra calories.
Sometimes, when I watch movies at home, I will make some microwave popcorn to eat. Just read something very disturbing that might change that habit real quick.
I was just reading a report about how a toxicologist won’t eat microwave popcorn. The problem is that there are chemicals in the lining of the bag, called perfluorooctanoic acid or PFOA, that vaporize when you microwave the popcorn and these chemicals then migrate into your popcorn. These chemicals can stay in your body for years.
Some manufacturers have promised to phase out the use of PFOA by 2015. These chemicals have been linked to infertility and cancer (liver, testicular and pancreatic)
Of course we can always go back to the old-fashioned way of making popcorn. I remember making popcorn on the stove all the time when I was young. It tasted really good, especially when you melted just a tad of butter. Maybe it’s time to bring back old-fashioned popcorn.
At least the popcorn in the movie theaters is still fair game!!
