There is one very overlooked element of time saving that most people completely overlook. It has to do with a function all of us use in our everyday activities.
For most of us, we deal with this both in our business and private lives, and you might need to consider saving time as well.
What Is This TimeSaver?
You might be shocked to find how much time your operating system takes to administer. I just thought I had found a fantastic free firewall, and downloaded it from a danish pc magazine website. Everything sounded fine.
However, things weren’t quite as smart as I thought, because I installed the software on friday, and continued using my laptop. I then unplugged the machine and took it out in the evening yesterday – yet discovered it wouldn’t startup.
No information. Just a blue screen of death announcing something about IRQ_Less or equal. Cryptic beyond belief, but luckily there was a reference in the text to some of the latest software one had installed that might not work as desired.
I had installed two things. Desktop software for the new Palm Zire 72. I knew that was functional, so the only possibility was to reboot and begin in “Fail safe mode” and login as Admin, and uninstall the faulty firewall software.
18 years experience
Funnily enough it’s now 18 years ago that I bought my first pc. It ran DOS back then, and it wasn’t until 1996/97 that I went over to Windows [95 at the time]. Until then, Windows was installed on top of DOS… Those merry days are over.
Nowadays, any programmer can release software, and once you have downloaded it to your machine, you are at the mercy of the abilities of the person(s) who did the programming.
Now, don’t misunderstand. I do realize that some specific combination of many programs may have caused this, but since I otherwise use rather simple software it ought to be possible to make it functional without any major problems.
My solution – good advice from very good friends
I have never been as much in love with an operating system as I have with Macintosh. I enjoy Linux, but truly I have learned quite a bit from some very good friends in France. The husband quit Linux entirely but was also heavily in love with the Mac operating system.
I can’t say it more clearly than this: I need a system that works. I am dependent upon a system that works – every single day of the year. It bothers me when things get annoying, and that’s why my next computer will be an Apple Macintosh.
