Easy-to-Make Candle Holders

Built by Author Unknown on Monday, September 24th, 2007

As those of us who already love candles will be well aware of, nothing transforms a space faster than adding a variety of candles, and turning off most other lights in the room. At one time this might have been a look reserved only for romantic evenings (and even then, just a few tasteful tapers would have been used) but nowadays, candles are being used in a great variety of situations. From time to time, you may be short a candle holder or two – but don’t worry; even if you have little time left before your evening gathering, a candle holder is very easy to make or improvise

Basically, anything that holds a candle is a candle holder, and there is no need to be formal about how you use it. Try putting a set of tea lights in some decorative glasses, for example. If the glasses are cut class, that will make the flickering flame of the candle cast itself decorously across the space. For a pillar candle, all you need is something flat underneath it to catch any drips – try putting several of these candles on a plate.

Finding or making a candle holder for tall, tapered candles is a bit harder, but certainly possible. A jar full of sand, marbles or pennies works well enough, for example – the candle is held in place. You could stick a taper candle into the neck of a wine bottle; this look might be bit dated, but after a few bottles of wine, who cares?
