Echoes Of A Primeval Past – Phang Nga Bay

Built by pushpitha on Sunday, November 13th, 2011

A protected Ramsar wetland since 2002, the Phang Nga Bay National Marine Park is characterised by a group of distinctive forty two tree covered limestone islands and cliffs rising abruptly out of the clear blue waters of the bay. A favourite with tourists since they were made famous in James Bond movies, the area is overrun by tourist boats full of day trippers from Phuket. However it is still possible to appreciate these spectacular green islands by employing other more discreet means to enjoy the stunning views, the quiet beaches and coves.

A unique way to see these islands and to view some of their extraordinary features, inaccessible by any other means, is to take a canoe trip. Visitors can travel in a larger boat and transfer to a canoe once near the islands and glide quietly through mangrove forests into stalactite filled caves and view weird rock formations and even lagoons or ‘hongs’ bordered by soaring cliffs open to the sky hollowed out by eons of erosion. The more adventurous can wade through shallow water or bend low to get through narrow cave entrances and be surprised by magical sights. The caves can only be accessed at low tide and can be quite a tight squeeze, certainly not a trip for the faint hearted.

Another interesting way to enjoy this striking maritime landscape is to go there with the local fishermen in a long tail boat, who with their intimate knowledge of the area would be able to point out several places of interest including secluded beaches. The many bird, terrestrial and aquatic species including dugongs are added attractions. Visitors to Phang Nga Bay can have the ultimate primeval experience and get shivers down their spine thinking of pirates and buried treasures.

With idyllic beach and riverside location, the Millennium Patong Beach Resort offers comfortable contemporary accommodation and spaces for relaxation in the heart of a vibrant tourist city. As a premier Phuket resort, guests are provided with modern facilities and amenities to make the most of their holiday experience. The hotel will also provide relevant details of Phuket attractions so that guests can plan their vacation to enjoy all what the area can offer by way of entertainment and cultural attractions.
