[EGCG Green Tea Benefits]: The benefits of green tea.

What are the benefits? What is EGCG? What is Green Tea?

It’s interesting that in today’s world, everyone is discussing “going green”. Maybe green tea should be part of that trend. There seems to be so many benefits of drinking green tea that people are switching from regular black teas, oolong, white and other flavored teas to green tea. Here are a few of the reasons.

The first reason is because of EGCG. This can seem to be a little confusing because of the terminology, but EGCG stands for epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). If you can’t pronounce the word, don’t worry. Most people can’t. EGCG is actually a polyphenol and this is the scientific name of it. EGCG green tea benefits are a result of the fact that it is a powerful antioxidant. As an antioxidant, it has been stated that it can help to stop the growth of cancer cells while not hurting any healthy tissue in the process. This is just one of the benefits of green tea.

Catechins (the second half of the word) are simply active compounds, or substances. In green tea catechins are grouped together. One group of catechins contains : EC, ECg, EGC and EGCg. Within this catechin group, the catechin EGCg is the most potent or powerful active compound. EGCG (an antioxident) is approximately. 25 to 100 times more potent than both vitamin C and vitamin E. One cup of green tea can provide up to 40 mgs of polyphenols. This equates to the green tea’s antioxident benefits being greater than having a serving of each of strawberries, spinach, carrots or broccoli.

Here’s another unfamiliar term to many: polyphenols. Polyphenols are the single largest group of tea constituents or compounds found in green tea. What are constituents? The definition of constituents is simply something that is part of the whole. So green tea contains a significant amount of EGCG (the catechin group) which has been found to promote many different types of positive health benefits, through both scientific experiments and practical living results.

EGCG Green Tea benefits have been touted as protecting the human body in many ways. Here are just a few:

Reduction of fat in the arterial walls.

Cancer protection
