Email Marketing – Creating Email Lists for Marketing Campaigns

You should look into email marketing as one of the components of your internet marketing initiative once you decide to get into it. There are many business owners who believe that email advertising is just spamming and stay away from it. But you are really leaving money on the table if you choose to ignore it.



Creating an email marketing list is the first step in email marketing campaigns. What are the options open for you to do this? What are the dos and don’ts of email marketing?

Email lists are merely list of email addresses. You will send your advertising materials to those in the email lists.

One of the common ways people get such a list is by buying it. This method is not recommended as you will not know if those in the list are interested in the products or services that you are marketing. All your efforts in email advertising will be wasted if it is not a targeted email.

When you purchase an email list you may be sending your email messages to some users who might be interested but this is largely coincidental and is not likely to be well received because the message was not solicited.

Internet users are quick to delete emails that may be spam even without opening them. More basic than this is that some Internet service providers include spam filters and send your emails to the junk mail if they looked like they are spam. All your efforts will go to waste if most of the people in your email list do not receive or read the message.

A better way of creating your email lists is by asking current and also potential customers who are interested to register with your website to get more information on a given subject. This could be free reports, newsletters, periodic updates and the like. This results in an email list that includes people who are genuinely interested.

Now that you have a list of subscribers who are interested, you can do targeted bulk email marketing. Your message should contain useful information that will be valued by your subscribers and ultimately persuade them to buy your products or services. But make sure that it is not all promotion material only.

Once you have an email list, you then have the opportunity to do further email marketing to the same list without having to resort to other Internet marketing methods. Anytime, you know of a product that will be useful to your list, you can do an email blast. Not only will some of them buy if the product is good and useful. They might even appreciate that you updated them on the availability of the product.
