Exercising with your dog

Built by Robin Dary on Monday, March 30th, 2009

Want to start an exercise program that you’ll keep? Exercise with your dog! Yes, it sounds corny but it works and here is why.

Dogs are creatures of habit and training. They don’t have watches or clocks yet they know when we wake up, when we feed them, and when we’ll be home from work. (Well, if your Paris Hilton’s dog you might have a diamond-crusted watch to match your outfit.)

If you get in a habit of taking your dog for a walk every morning before work your dog creates or imprints that habit. Just try sleeping in on a walking day. You can’t! If your dog is like most dogs they will do anything to wake you up and go for that expected walk. Sure, you can say no to friends but saying no to the dog. It’s not that easy.

Sometimes work, school, life in general makes it tough to keep a set schedule. You can still use this plan. Your dog won’t get trained for a set time each day. What you will need to do is work in as many walks as you can. In this plan if you go too many days without a walk the dog will let you know. They’ll be antsy and ready to go. You’ll need to find the time and get out for a good long walk.

It’s a great way to keep up a walking or running program!
