Finding Your Personal Style

Built by Henrik Blunck on Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

I think it’s very positive that many tv channels have adopted home improvement into their list of programs. However, I think some people may be using these programs the wrong way.

Instead of just copying what you see, you might want to use these programs as inspiration. Inspiration to use even more daring colours – perhaps even buying some of the very cheap carving and drilling sets you can get for wood, stone etc.

Complete Make-Over

Copying is somewhat unoriginal, so you might find that you will get a much improved result if you begin using what you see as “extra motivation” to do even better.

“Practice makes perfect” is an old adage that certainly fits well in this regard. Try helping friends redo their houses. Begin by changing just one room. Entrances are somewhat a challenge. They give first impressions about who’s living there.

We can see the same thing in our home. I just redecorated our entrance (which was built after the original house). It was big enough to house extras, so we had nearly filled it up with things we thought we were going to use “in the near future”…

There Is No Near Future! :-)

We ended up with a storage room combined with washing machine, drying machine etc all invading this room.

Enough was enough!, so I decided to clean things up. Save what needed saving and then out with everything we didn’t need. Lovely!

It’s an entirely new room, and gives energy for moving on. My list of priorities is therefore: bathroom [easy but time-consuming], children’s rooms, bedroom, dining room and then living room.

I have given myself two days for each room. One to throw out, clean up, repair, remodel – all allowing for the fact that if one room is completed in less than a day, I can move on to the next.

This is one of the good things about being a student. School doesn’t begin again until two weeks’ time.

Good luck. I hope to have motivated you to begin also. :-)
