Fixing Webbed Lawn Chairs is Easy and Affordable

Go outside and take a quick survey of your garage. You might see tools, snow shovels, maybe some toys. Check out the stuff that’s hanging or leaning on your garage walls. If you’re like most Americans, I bet there are some old webbed lawn chairs in there on their way to the trash. You know what webbed lawn chairs are; those old-school tubular aluminum chairs with seats and backs made of nylon strapping. They’re light, they’re practical, and they’re cheap.

So the question is, where have all the webbed lawn chairs gone?

The answer’s pretty simple. A lot of advances have been made in the last 10 years or so in portable outdoor furniture. Sadly, webbed lawn chairs have been pushed slightly out of focus, though they’re still hanging on tenaciously amid these new modern folding chairs. You know; the ones at the soccer games and concerts with the nifty cup holders. These new invaders are making it harder than ever for our poor old webbed lawn chair. But don’t worry. There are still lots of options if you’re not willing to give up on your old lawn chairs just yet. Fixing old chairs in your garage is easy and very cheap. And if your old chairs are beyond repair, you can still buy new web lawn chairs.

Before you give up on your chairs, take a good look at the aluminum frames. Look for rust or corrosion, and general sturdiness. There’s no point replacing the webbing on a chair if the frame isn’t going to be able to support it. If all is well, wipe down your frame with a damp cloth, and take a look at the webbing. Since webbing for lawn chairs comes in many colors, chances are you can get a strap that comes reasonably close to matching what you already have. It’s also much easier to replace one strap. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the strap in place and get that ripped strap out of there!

Get out your new webbing and use the same weaving pattern to add the new strap. Screw it into place and trim any excess. Voila! Your chair is as good as new! You can also buy chair re-webbing kits that have everything you need to re-web a standard chair. What could be easier? At the end of the day, take that old chair to a soccer game and watch the looks of envy on the other spectators’ faces. Because hey, you don’t need a nifty cup holder!

I have a pair of folding chairs with the vinyl straps that go across. The frames are steel and these are 10 years old. The arms are cracking and breaking but I love these chairs because there is no front bar to hurts my legs.

I wish I could find more like them. Anyone know?

    The website is Waltrichplastic.com

Email attention to Kelly, she can tell you what colors, roll lenghts and widths we have. We are the orginal manufacturer of the webbing. We would make the reweb kits and package them for other companies.

Hi Sunchair! You make the webbing for the chairs? What is your website? I’ve searched the entire internet for the stuff. Actually, I don’t need the the chair webbing to make chairs with. I use it to weave between the fence spindles that surround the top rail of my above ground swimming pool. It makes the swimming pool more private. I like different bright colors. I wish I could send you a picture, everyone says it looks pretty and unique. If you can help with my search, I’d be most appreciative.
