The comments I hear most often from friends and neighbors is “how can you spend so many hours on planes?” “Why don’t you just travel around the U.S.?” “Drive?”
My theory – sooner or later – age and my body won’t be able to take those distances. I haven’t received any sign from above (or below), that I will live a very long time with intact knees and any kind of memory. I’m hopeful, when the time comes, the ex-Marine will push my wheelchair, carry the supplemental oxygen and bags of medications. Until then, go for it!
Another reason is the cost of flying domestic. My son lives in Oklahoma, and it is rare find a fare for under $350 round trip from Chicago! Right now, you can fly to London, Ireland, Paris and other places for the same Fares!!! No offense, Oklahoma City, but I’d rather fly to Ireland.
We’ve spent the nite in Kashgar, China, sleeping on the floor with hundreds of Chinese citizens when thunderstorms cancelled our flight.
We just spent four hours in Los Angeles while United tried to find an EXIT SIGN that had been taken off our plane, and couldn’t take off until a new one was screwed into place! It’s enough to make me want to carry spare parts in the suitcase.
But, if you are ever fortunate to fly Singapore Airlines, all your thoughts about flying will change. We turned miles into Business Class tickets and flew Singapore to the Fa rEast on their new non-stop A380 from Los Angeles to Singapore. 18 hours and 20 minutes. The time flew, not only for us in our space beds that completely recline), but for those in economy. The plane is spacious with room to move around. Their intereactive entertainment system is at every seat. How about 60 movies…that’s right…60 movies, all on demand. You can start, pause, rewind whenever you want. There are short subjects, 105 on-demand TV shows like the “Simpsons”, “Frasier” to name a few, international news, learn a language, computer games,2225 on-demand audio albums where you can combine your favorite music. Forget about sleep, I’ve never seen time go by faster.
The plane is spacious, the flight attendants can’t do enough for you, there are snacks served throughout the flight and you can always sleep at your destination. Remember, there is nothing left but “sleep” in our lives when we are gone…GO AND FLY!

Is it you fly around the world in 3d?
