Up to five million dollars in grants and scholarships will be awarded in 2007 to schools and teachers for innovative projects focused on energy and energy conservation. The deadline for applications is March 23, 2007, so if you are interest or know of a teacher who might be interested you need to act quickly.
BP energy grants will be awarded to select geographic areas in the United States and Canada. Teachers in areas of Indiana, Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, California, and Alabama may apply for the grants. In addition, grant recepients from 2006 may apply for sustainability grants.
Over the past three years $6.5 million has been awarded for the A+ for Energy program grants and scholarships to teachers in California and Texas. Over 500 projects have been sponsored helping more than 211,000 students learn about energy, and energy conservation. The 2007 program has expanded to include the above-named geographic areas.
The grants will be awarded to pre-k through 12 grade teachers for innovative classroom, after-school, extra-curricular, or summer projects. The grant application guidelines can be found online at the A+ for Energy website. You may apply online for the grant or by mail. Applications must be postmarked by March 23rd.
The winners of the grants will be notified on May 21, 2007 and will be required to attend a all expenses paid, 3-day energy conference before implementing the grant.
