Dine out with your family this week and help to put an end to childhood hunger in the United States. From September 21st to September 28th, more than 3,700 restaurants across the United States will be participating in Share our Strength’s Great American Dine Out. When you eat at one of these restaurants a percentage of their sales will be donated to Share Our Strength.
Share Our Strength was started in 1984, and has raised more than $200 million for hunger relief organizations through various fundraising events since that time. If you watch the Food Network on television you have probably seen some of the programs they produce within the culinary industry.
According to Share our Strength, more than 12.6 million children in the United States are at risk for hunger. That is one in six children. With limited access to nutritious foods they are more likely to suffer poorer health, fatigue, hospitalizations, behavioral difficulties and impaired performance at school. All this has lifeling consequences, not
only for the children but for our nation.
The Great American Dine Out is in its first year and is presented by American Express and the restaurant industry. You can go online at www.strength.org and find a participating restaurant in you area by entering your zipcode. You can also make reservations online at some of the restaurants.
