Fundraising for Your Cause or Charity with YourCause.com

Built by Amy Passmore on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Are you passionate about a cause or charity? You can raise awareness and money for your cause online with a new social networking website called YourCause.com. YourCause.com was launched in April 2008 and already has over 1,700 members who have raised over $65,000 for their causes or charities.

The stated goal of the site is to “Empower Millions to Raise Billions” while building “the largest community of caring people on the planet.” The basic membership is free to anyone who wants to join and raise money for a charity or nonprofit organization. The charity or nonprofit organization must be an IRS qualified and registered 501(c)3 entity.

The website features a database of 1.4 million approved charitable organizations that you can search and choose to promote. The organizations are in categories, such as education, animals, health, the environment, civil rights and more. When you join and select your cause to promote you will then set up your own personal webpage. You will be able to write about your cause, and interact with other members of the network. You will be able to receive donations for your cause. If you upgrade to a paid membership you can do more on the website such as sell products you create through Zazzle.com.

Donations are securely processed through The Network for Good (networkforgood.org). Donations are 100% tax decuctible and donors will receive an email receipt for their tax records. If you cannot find your favorite charity or organization in the database on the website you can suggest that it be added.

There are many celebrities who have joined YourCause.com and are raising money for their charities. For example, Sheryl Crow supports raising awareness for the early detection of breast cancer.
