Fundraising Ideas for Nonprofit Organizations

Built by Amy Passmore on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Are you looking for some good ideas for your next fundraiser? Here are some examples of successful fundraisers.

In Hartford, Connecticut, volunteers raised $1,200 by washing 100 cars during a car wash fundraiser. The money will be used for the purchase of the playground equipment at two local elementary schools.

In Vancouver, Canada the 10th annual The Young and the Restless Afternoon Tea drew more than 300 soap opera fans. The fans of the soap opera paid $60.00 each to meet the tv stars. Proceeds went to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Brick fundraising is being conducted for a courtyard in the Rio Grande Hospital in Alamosa, Colorado. “Keeping the Dream Alive: One Brick at a Time” is the theme of a fundraiser developed to allow community supporters to purchase a brick with a special personalized message to place in the new hospital courtyard to honor its supporters. The bricks are being sold for a minimum donation of $100.

In Portland, Maine money is being raised for a skateboad park with a brick fundraiser. Bricks will be used in the construction of the park and are being sold for $50.00 each.

Hospital foundations often hold annual galas which raise significant amounts of money. For example, the Women’s Council of Verdugo Hills California Hospital Foundation will host the 25th annual Main Event “Dreams of Fall” in November. The event will include dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and live entertainment. The money raised will be used to purchase equipment for the hospital’s emergency room. Last year the Main Event raised more than $220,000 for the purchase of hospital equipment.

Golf tournaments are always popular fundraising activities. In Ontario, Canada, the Orillia Youth Symphony Orchestra held a golf tournament to support the orchestra’s ongoing activities. A $125 fee per participant included the use of a golf cart, green fees, a prize table, and a steak dinner with music by the orchestra.
