Fundraising – Lemonade Days 2006

Built by Amy Passmore on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

People often wonder if their fundraising efforts make a difference. When you hear the story of one little girl who inspired her parents to create a foundation in her name, you will know that even an 8 year old girl can make a difference in the lives of many.

In 2000, when she was 4 years old, a cancer patient named Alexandra “Alex” Scott decided to set up a lemonade stand to raise money to help “her doctors” find a cure for kids with cancer. Alex and her older brother, Patrick, set up the first “Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer” on their front lawn in July of 2000.

For the next four years, Alex, still battling cancer herself, held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Sadly, Alex lost her battle with cancer in August 2004. But, following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses, and organizations to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer.

Adults and children have been inspired by Alex’s giving spirit. In 2004 and 2005 there were over 4000 Alex’s Lemonade Stands held across the country. As of May 2006, this national campaign has raised over $6 million for childhood cancer research. The lesson that children and adults everywhere learn from holding their own lemonade stands is simple but powerful – every person can make a difference in the world.

Help Raise Money for Childhood Cancer Research During Lemonade Days

This year, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation invites people from coast to coast to host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand event in their community during Lemonade Days 2006, June 9 11, to help raise millions of dollars for research into this deadly disease.
