Fundraising on Blog Action Day October 15, 2008

Are you a blogger? If you are a blogger interested in social change you can join in on Blog Action Day 2008 and discuss the issue of world poverty. On October 15th, 2008 thousands of bloggers around the world will participate in the second annual Blog Action Day.

What would happen if everyone blogs on the same topic on a given day? That is what the organizers of Blog Action Day asked and decided to find out when they founded Blog Action Day in 2007. Last year the topic was the environment. This year the topic is world poverty. The aim is for bloggers to start a widespread discussion around a global issue through niche-focused articles that appeal to their readers.

Anyone can participate by publishing at least one blog post, podcast or video about poverty on October 15, 2008. In addition to posting bloggers are also encouraged to donate to a poverty related charity. If you make money on your blog from advertising, affiliate earnings, donations, or product sales, you are encouraged donate the money you generate on Blog Action Day. You can contribute by joining the fundraising project at Change.org or by making a donation to a charity of your choice. You can also join the fundraising team at Kiva.org and contribute to a micro loan.

There are already close to 5,000 bloggers registered to participate on October 15th. Visit http://www.blogactionday.org/ to sign up your blog. The website has banners and badges you can add to your website to help spread the word. I will be posting more again on Blog Action Day October 15th.
