Gadget Toys That Scream Fun!

Built by Alex Tsui on Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Some gadgets don’t serve any other purpose than just to provide endless hours of fun. Well, today we’ll look at some of these gadgets and see how much fun and exhilaration we can get out of them.

I remember way back when I was a kid I had a little toy scuba diver that could kick his flippers around and scoot around just below the surface of my bath water. At that time I thought that was the coolest toy that I had ever seen. Probably at that time it was.

However with today’s myriad array of high-tech gadget toys, that little scuba guy wouldn’t have a fighting chance to woo the hearts of our technology-crazed kids.

Let’s take a look at one of these gadget toys that is simply out of this world. He is a miniature robot called Robosapien and now he comes in Version 2. Originally invented by a NASA scientist Mark Tilden who worked on another robot that went to Mars, this later version is much improved.

This is just a small sample of his capabilities:

  • Humanoid body movement, including bending, sitting and standing, lying down and getting up, waving, martial arts etc.
  • True bi-pedal walking with multiple gaits.
  • Precision gripping, articulated fingers.
  • Realistic 2-axis turning head with animated LED eyes.
  • Interactive sensors.
  • Reactive movement – will get up if knocked down.
  • Speech: responds verbally to environmental stimuli and to controller commands.
  • Colour vision system: recognizes colours and skin tones: interacts with objects and people.
  • IR vision: detects and avoids obstacles and table edges: tracks moving objects.

You’ll be utterly amazed at just how agile and lifelike his movements are. He even displays some not so polite human behaviors such as yawning, belching and farting! On second thought maybe he’s not such a good toy for your kid after all.

Well, if I’ve intrigued you enough to want to get your hands on one, just surf over to IWantOneOfThose.com and do a search for Robosapien.
