Good Old Cabbage Soup Diet

The older I get the more difficult it is to stay at my “comfort” weight. I’m 36. I spent the month of July, while the kids were off visiting relatives, working out for 1 1/2 hours every other day.

I did this to rid myself of 10 pounds that found its way on to my body!

I am not a small person, at 5′7 my comfort range is 150 to 160 lbs. I was at 168 and not liking it at all, so I did what I knew, I cut out fat and sugar and worked out like a maniac.

September rolled around and so did the 10 lbs. again!

How? Where did it come from? My husband likes dinners out, I think that is a source of the pounds jumping on my body! I felt like I had to “shock ” my body so I pulled out extreme measures!

After my sons(11 & 7 yrs. old) were born I did the Cabbage Soup Diet to jump start losing the baby weight. (My boys weighed 9lbs. 8 oz. and 10lbs. 51/2 oz.)

It is really hard to stick to Cabbage Soup, even though there is actually a good variety of foods allowed. This time I lost 9lbs. in a week, 5 have come back which I expected.

I googled Cabbage soup diet and saw the hundreds of versions, here’s mine:

The Soup:

1 small head green cabbage

3 or 4 green onions

2 green peppers

2 cans diced tomatoes

Lipton Beefy Onion Soup mix

Beef bullion

Cajun seasoning

Minced garlic

I cut veggies into bite sized chunks.

water to cover veggies

I bring soup to a hard boil and then simmer it for about 4 hours.

The eating plan is as follows:

Day 1 Eat all the soup you can and fruits, except for Bananas they have a special day!

Day 2 All veggies, green leafy are best, peas & corn don’t count! Eat soup! For dinner you get to have a baked potato with butter!

Day 3 Soup, Fruits and veggies, NO Baked potato today!

Day 4 Bananas and Skim milk today! Soup!

Day 5 Beef and tomatoes! Up to 20 oz. of beef, eat soup too!

Day 6 Beef and Veggies, soup at least once!

Day 7 Brown Rice, veggies, Soup!

Based on my experience, this is not meant to be a long term way of eating! It provides a jump start to healthy changes in your diet! You are forced to think about what you are eating! Your body will crave the fat and sugar you are used to! Pay attention to what this is telling you! Fat and Sugar can be addictive!

I also make sure to get exercise, a 30 minute brisk walk everyday at a minimum! I personally add some light weight training! I also take Hydroxy Cut supplement, only 2 a day!

The drinks recommended are Unsweetened juices, black coffee, tea, lots of water! Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day!

I cheat, I drink diet cokes, coffee with splenda and low fat creamer. I will some time in the week eat a very small portion of what I cook for my family!

I am not a doctor, nutritionist, etc. I am relating my own real life experience.
