Halloween Party Ideas For Kids

Built by Sherrie Le Masurier on Monday, September 24th, 2007

Nothing makes Halloween more fun than throwing a Halloween party for your children and their friends.

When my kids were young they loved the following cool and creepy Halloween game and Halloween activity ideas:

First let’s start with one of my favorite Halloween party ideas – a pumpkin invitation.

Pumpkin invites is one of the most creative ways I’ve found to invite guests to a Halloween party. Purchase a miniature pumpkin for each child. You can usually find ones that stand about 3 tall and resemble a gourd. With an indelible marker write all the party details on one side. On the other side, draw or paint a face or leave it as an activity for the guest to do. (Be sure to pick up a few extra pumpkins for a special ring toss game three to five should do it.)

Another neat Halloween party idea is to use orange balloons as the basis of your child’s party invitations. Blow up each balloon, write the information on one side and draw a spooky face on the other. Let it dry a moment, deflate and send to guests.

Now for the Halloween game list. Here are my favorite Halloween games for the kids

Nab A Spider

For young Halloween party goers, do a twist on the traditional fish pond game. Throw a bunch of plastic spiders in kiddies pool. Don’t have one? You can always use a large rectangular pan or tray. Attach a paper clip or safety pin to each spider so they can easily be picked up by a magnet attached by string to a long stick or fishing rod.

Pin The Smile On The Pumpkin

Like Pin The Tail On The Donkey’ this Halloween game appeals to the young set. When it comes to Halloween games for kids you can’t beat this one especially for wee ones. Fashion your pumpkin out of construction paper and use reusable tack (found in most dollar stores) on the back of your smile’ pieces.

Ring Toss

Using miniature pumpkins set up a ring toss Halloween game. Allot different points to each pumpkin by drawing or painting a number on the front (or just leave them blank and make a fun, no winners game out of it). Fashion your own rings by cutting out the center of sturdy disposable plates or bending wire. Better yet, use the rings from another game. Don’t have one, borrow one.

Mummy Pass

For a neat Halloween party idea and a fun twist on the traditional Pass the Present’ game try the Mummy Pass’. Wrap a small toy with different lengths of toilet paper. Secure each length with a couple of pieces of tape.

To play this game children sit in a circle. The mummy-wrapped gift is then passed from child to child, each taking his or her turn removing a length of paper. The child who unwraps the last bit of paper gets to keep the toy.

This activity can also be played at random to monster’ music, when the music stops the child holding the gift takes off a layer. When the music begins again, the gift is passed to the next child in line and so on, until the music finally stops and the last layer is unwrapped.

Nature’s Brew

This fun party idea involves gathering together a paper bag or bucket for each child, along with some cardboard and glue. Create your brew’ by deciding on ingredients such as acorns, twigs, leaves, stones, pine cones, seeds, and pine needles.

Ahead of time, glue ingredients onto individual cardboard squares so the kids can read’ what they need to find. Next, give the kids bags or buckets and have them search outside for the ingredients.

A Witch Hunt

For older kids, it usually comes down to the scarier, the better. For a spooky party activity devise your own witch hunt’ based on the traditional scavenger/treasure hunt idea.

Have kids search for things that are the same size as an eyeball, the same color as witch’s skin, something that is furry like a bat etc. Weather permitting, run this Halloween game outdoors. You’ll be amazed and probably equally disgusted with the treasures’ these older party goers come back with.

Yuck!

This game has got to be my favorite Halloween party idea ever! Can they do it without saying yuck? Put your party goers to the test by having them insert one hand into a box and taking a guess at what’s inside. Not saying yuck may be trickier than it sounds if you put things like cooked noodles, peeled grapes, over ripe bananas and frozen peas inside the box. No peeking allowed. Don’t trust them, use a blindfold.

Apple Bobbing With A Twist

It isn’t a true Halloween party without a little apple bobbing. Keep your guests dry by inserting bobby pins in the tops of a dozen apples. Leave part of each pin exposed and thread a string through it. Hang the apples from a broomstick suspended between two chairs.

Hopefully the above party and Halloween games for the kids suggestions will inspire the odd party idea of your own. Happy Halloween!
