HD Camcorders and Editing: The Wave Of The Future

Built by emily price on Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

HD Video Cameras have recently hit the consumer market, allowing people to shoot their own home videos in high definition. Right now, HD camcorders run around $5000 making them more a pro toy than something mom and dad would pull out at graduation. As time goes on however I think we will see more HD camcorders in the consumer market, especially as the price drops down to something the average family can afford to pay.

The original HD camcorder was put out by JVC; the new consumer model is a Sony camcorder with two different models to choose from, one with pro audio and the other without. Along with HD camcorder companies have been releasing HD video editing equipment as well. The most recent addition being the Canopus Edius editing system that edits HD video in real time. Edius joins the ranked of Final Cut Pro HD, which has been available for almost a year. Both editing systems will cost you near the cost of an HD camera, and require pretty impressive computer setups to run properly.

As more home theaters become High Definition I think we will see more consumers going out to purchase the HD camera. With a high definition television, a standard definition camera is no longer going to be up to snuff. Hopefully as the demand for them increases the price will decrease allowing more home videographers the ability to own their very own HD camcorder. High definition video cameras are defiantly the wave of the future for home video taping.

  1. This spells the beginning of the end of the video production industry. As hardware and software gets faster and smarter they'll just take over.
