People do their computing everywhere they can now by phone, PDA or handheld as well as notebook and laptop.. If its portable its
convenient. But is it good for you?
Not in the least.
A fair rule of thumb is that the smaller the device, longer the computing time and worse the working environment, the more damage you can do yourself.
Airplane trips are hardly comfortable anyway. You lose space, peace, privacy and fresh air, even on a domestic run.
On or offline, if you decide on any keyboard use, you are cramped into an unnatural workspace, working away in an unfamiliar environment and maybe an unknown destination adding that extra fillip of stress to the normal airline offerings of tedium, tiredness, distored entertainment, lack of decent nourishment and toilets fit for human habitation, plus background fears about deep vein thrombosis and hijacks.
So in simple terms, there is NO Healthy VComputing on an aircraft.
However we may be forced to give up our portable pals anyway due to more immediate dangers that they pose.
An Apple iBook gave a Minnesota family a shock when it flared up melting the carpet and filling the house with smoke. There have been battery recalls in the hundreds of thousands.A Dell laptop actually exploded apart during a Japanese conference.
Right in aviation territory, a laptop caught fire in an overhead compartment at O’Hare Airport, Chicago.
So unsurprisingly, airline safety agencies are closely investigating the incidence and frequency of these events.
Don’t be surprised if in future your only fix for aerial keyboard tapping will be fixed computers, running at some exorbitant fixed price per hour!
Oh, and will they mean normal ergometic a Healthy Computing principles… don’t hold your breath even in first class…its better to do it before, or after, and just relax on the flight. Oh you can. Think of the strain and money youll save!
