Healthy Halloween Candy

Built by Nathalie Lussier on Monday, August 21st, 2006

Is it possible? Healthy Halloween Candy? Well I’m writing to let you know it is possible to buy some healthy alternatives to Halloween Candy. Every trick or treater wants to go out on halloween night and gather some yummy treats for the year head. But it’s every parents nightmare because of the dangers of Halloween candy in general. Well if every person was as socially responsible as you are about to be, then parents wouldn’t need to sort through all of their kids’ candy and throw out a bunch of it every year.

So what constitutes healthy halloween candy? Everyone’s idea of health starts with fruits and vegetables. But we all know that parents are skeptical of fruits and, well honestly no one gives vegetables out on Halloween. We have all heard horror stories of apples being given out to children, only to find out that the apples had been filled with needles or drugs to hurt kids. It’s ironic how the healthiest candy and foods are transformed and ruined by some twisted people, just to make people more skeptical of each other.

But we can’t really trust the food and candy companies to package foods either. Especially because of the contents of the candies and other treats that are usually given out at Halloween. So here are some great alternatives and some healthy Halloween Candy:

Dark Chocolates are an excellent source of antioxidants. Try to buy individually packaged small chocolates in any shapes! Just because it’s Halloween doesn’t mean that you need to actually buy candy or chocolate made specifically for halloween. As long as the chocolates are individually packaged, you can dress them up later with some colorful orange ribbons. You’ll find that decorating an existing package will be even more fun, and keep in mind that these healthy chocolates will not come cheap. But kids will understand once they taste the purity of the halloween candy that: good things come in small packages.

So what exactly is the difference between a healthy chocolate and a a normal chocolate bar you might buy anywhere? The difference is in the ingredients of course: bad chocolate is filled with things other than chocolate. The best chocolates are those made up mostly of pure dark chocolate. If the label of chocolate says it contains any of the following, do not buy it: milk, sugar, wax, oil, syrup, or any other extremely complicated names. That’s usually a sign that there’s something fishy going on with the quality of this chocolate. Think about this: chocolate companies are making a killing by filling what people think is chocolate with a bunch of other products like wax, sugar, milk and other ingredients that are inexpensive fillers.

So good luck selecting your halloween treats and halloween candies this year. You can just go out the night before halloween and buy whatever is left on the shelf, and pay a premium for being last minute. Or you can plan ahead like a responsible neighbor or parent and buy some healthy alternatives to halloween candy and still keep the kids happy!
