Helpful tips for getting rid of adult acne
When it comes to adult acne many people are not only embarrassed about the condition of their skin but have tried a ton of different things to get rid of acne once and for all.
I’m here to tell you that no one acne treatment solution will work for everyone.
What is important to understand is that some acne medications may actually cause your skin to initially break out worse than before. This is because all FDA-approved acne medications (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur) are causing your skin to regenerate faster.
What happens is that existing acne pimples (which are already under your skin only not visible yet) are brought to the surface. This in turn may cause a huge break out – which is usually only temporary.
It’s wise to give the acne medications at least two weeks to work after a major breakout. As the days pass, you should notice a big improvement in the quality of your skin.
Having said that, it’s wise to see your family doctor or even a dermatologist if you find that after eight weeks there has been no improvement using your over the counter remedy. Like I said before not all acne remedies will work everyone.
Since dermatologists specialize in skin care they can prescribe medicines that will help your particular type of adult acne.
One to the most important things is not to stress out over your acne. Stress can actually make your acne worse.
Other things you can do to help improve your acne blemishes include drinking plenty of water. Staying well hydrated can help your condition improve. You see, the “waste management” control system in your body requires a great deal of water in order to do its job. Without enough water, your body will have difficulty ridding itself of waste efficiently.
Additionally you should look for face washes which contain the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide. This is the key ingredient in some of the best face washes. I’ve found that a 5-10% benzoyl peroxide product is great for mild to moderate acne. Only use a face wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide if your acne is on the severe side.
In my next post, I’ll talk about some other self help tips friends swear by for treating their adult acne.
