Herbs For Calming Anxiety

Built by Teresita C. Tayanes on Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

The herbs that can work wonders to alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression are St. John’s wort and Kava, according to Dr. Earl Mindell in his popular book “Dr. Earl Mindell’s Secrets of Natural Health.”

St. John’s wort has been successfully used by the Chinese, the Greeks, the Europeans, and the American Indians, for anxiety, insomnia, depression, and that other illness associated with stress: heart disease.

Kava, a member of the pepper family, is one of the most useful antianxiety herbs. Kava, it’s Latin name Piper methysticum, is described medically as a sedative and muscle relaxant. It’s also a pain reliever just like NSAIDs. Studies , mostly done in Europe, have demonstrated that Kava improves concentration, memory, and people with anxiety symptoms. And the best part is that no side effects have been noted, except with very large amounts taken over a number of years. However, Dr. Mindell warns, Kava is not recommended for people with Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s diseases.
