Homemade Preparations For Beautiful Skin
Do you know that homemade skin preparations are as effective as expensive commercial preparations? Nature has it’s own ingenious safequards and we could look to Mother Nature’s medicine cabinet for our skin-care solutions. For example, fruit acids produce the same beneficial effects as Vitamin A-derived treatments such as Tretinoin and Retin-A, and without the side effects. If you prefer the convenience of ready-made products, seek out those with whole and natural rather than synthetic or derived ingredients.
Dr. Earl Mindell, a pharmacist, nutritionist and herbalist, and the famous author of the book “Secrets of Natural Health”, gives us the following recipes for skin-care lotions :
* Aloe. This wonderful natural substance is found in many commercial products but is best scooped fresh from inside the aloe leaf. Full of healing chemicals, aloe is very cooling and soothing. Mix aloe with a litlle vitamin E if you find it drying.
* Brewer’s yeast. This has been found to increase collagen production when mixed with little water, wheat germ oil, or yogurt and patted gently into the skin. Rinse off once dry.
* Honey. A daily coating allowed to dry for 5 minutes before rinsing off is very effective skin cell regenerator.
* Mayonnaise and egg yolk. Mix the yolk with 1/4 cup of mayonnaise and apply several times a day as an anti-wrinkle lotion.
* White grapes. Cut in half and apply gently to the skin around eyes and mouth. A handful of grapes straight from the blender makes a refreshing and toning mask to leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing off. The French have long used champagne to tighten the skin.
