Hormone Pills And Cancer

Built by Teresita C. Tayanes on Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Hormone pills or the pills used for hormonal menopause therapy have been reclassified by World Health Organization (WHO) from “possibly carcinogenic” to “carcinogenic.” These pills are now added to the list of substances that can cause cancer.

Based on consistent evidence from studies published over the last few years, a panel of 21 scientists analyzed and concluded that estrogen and progestin menopause therapy slightly increases the risk of endometrial cancer when progestin is taken less than 10 days a month. Research has shown that the chance of a woman developing breast cancer during her life is one in seven.

Previous research have determined that the pill combining estrogen and progestin can cause liver cancer. Further research has demonstrated that it also slightly increases the risk of breast and cervical cancer although the pill also confirmed to protect against endometrial and ovarian cancer.
