After 10 years on the Internet, recently we had the same experience. My husband signed up on a page, offering two free sound books. He then got 30 days to try out the membership. If he liked the sound books and wanted to stay, our Visa would be charged 30 days later.

The quality wasn't good, so he called the company two days later and told them that he didn't want to continue. He got an email confirmation that his membership had ended.

30 days later our visa card was billed. We contacted the bank immediately, but they couldn't help. We should contact the company directly.

They excused and for the second time confirmed that the membership had ended. We had that in writing. They returned the payment.

Anyway, 30 days later, the same scenario. The bank cannot help.

This is a Danish bank. I know there are other rules in France, where we live. There you only need to contact the bank, and they'll return the payment.
