Overall, this technology is more cost friendly. It works out much cheaper than cable. It is also less likely to see a price rise as compared to cable rates. Reception quality is also excellent.

I have had service for 2 1/2 years. Everytime a cloud goes over I get LOST OF SIGNAL on all (3) tv's I finally called and a QC inspector with an installer was sent to my house. After 2 1/2 hours of re-doing the previous installation they apologied for the previous installation and replied I was lucky to have received any signal. Now 75 days later I have a receiver that has quit and since it has been less than 90 days it has been referred to a CASE MANAGER. Aftre 3 hours on the telephone and (4) telephone calls later they will finally send out a new receiver. Problem is I went thru (4) reps doing the same tests and NO results until I threatened to cancel and go to DISH. Their customer support has a lot to be desired.
Just found out directtv was charging us for Marchmadness, which we never ordered. Called to tell them there was a mistake, thinking this would be an easy fix but no deal. They said I would have to eat it and have a nice day. Pretty sad. Absolutely no customer service.
WARNING! Direct TV subscribers. I had Direct TV for many years until I moved to an apartment complex. I was happy with their service until I was forced to cancel their service due to "no line of site". When the installer came out to install the new equipment he immediately saw that I could not use their service and he notified Direct TV via their computerized equipment. I called Direct TV to verify that they were notified of the "No line of site" and they confirmed that indeed they had been notified. I then asked for verification that I would not be charged for early termination fee. They confirmed that I would not in this circumstance. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do to close the account. I was informed that everything was complete and I just needed to pay the remaining balance and my account was closed. 2 weeks later I received a box to return my equipment. I called the customer service line and asked what the box was for. They said to return the equipment. I said that no one had said anything about returning the equipment when my account was closed and I had been assured that everything was completed. They insisted that they equipment needed to be returned or I would be charged. Since I didn't need the equipment and it was useless to me I gladly packed it up and shipped it back to them in their box. 2 days later I look at my bank account and find that I have been charged a whopping $965.17. I went balistic and immediately called customer service to find out what the hell these charges were for. I asked for a supervisor the second I got a human as I knew the regular person wouldn't be able to refund any of the charges. After 45 minutes I received an apology from the Supervisor and an immediate refund of $340 early termination fee. Unfortunately the $475 for equipment fees was not refunded until they received the equipment. Just a message that you do need to send back the equipment immediately and you do need to verify the that your account is noted that there is no Termination Fee. Good luck with trying to cancel any services or your account.

Rodney, Publicity about mistreatment by Direct TV is exactly what they need and I am ready to join you. I believe I have some markers that will write on the car windows (I have a huge hatchback rear-window). Because of various obscenity & profanity laws I may chose some different wording :) Direct TV removed $64 from my new checking account 6 times without giving me any record or credit for it on my DirectV account! My regular Direct TV payment continued to be auto deducted monthly from my old bank account. Never ever give Direct TV a checking account number! With a credit card you have some fighting power because you can dispute it. No such luck with banks. It took 5 months and getting the fraud department of my police department to get Direct TV to stop taking money and to return what they had taken. Meanwhile I spent over 40 hours on this problem because of their incompetent customer service. I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I understand Direct TV currently has an F rating.
The bastards at DTV just nailed me...I bundled their service through Qwest, but they neglected to tell me that to qualify for the monthly discounted package I had to register for a rebate on line within 90 days. Now they tell me I missed the deadline, that I am still bound by their two year contract and the penalty for early cancellation is $400. So, my plan of action is to contact their CEO for remedy. If this fails, I will file a complaint with the BBB and the State Attorney General's office, then I will take them to small claims court. The issue is Contract of Adhesion and fine print, look it up. I work hard for my money, and I'll be damned if I'll be held by a decietful contract.
I agree with everything I've read here. DTV is the worst customer service EVER! I was given the old bait and switch AFTER the installer had installed all of my equipment. I was offered rebates and offers by the CSR that don't even exist. Their CSR operate on commission, so it's in their best interest to lie to you as long as you agree to become a customer. Then it's, "we have no record of that." This company is a joke and a scam.
I also fully agree with the statements above. I have an unauthorized charge of $402.01 to my credit card for a "cancelation fee." When I canceled after 3 days of terrible service, I was informed that there would not be any charges to my account. I should have known better, based on the experience I had over the 3 days that I had some sort of service from Direct TV. I do NOT recommend Direct TV, unless you enjoy spending alot of time on the telephone with rude people, and like to make unauthorized payments. The most unfortunate part of this is that there are too many people who will give up and pay them because they get so frustrated trying to get things taken care of with the representatives of Direct TV.
I fully agree with all of the above. I have just spent a worthless 90 minutes trying to get a problem resolved with a so-called customer service department that is no existent. Direct TV is not only worthless in terms of service but from my perspective deceitful as well. Do not buy any trial offers on services. In August 2009 I was contacted and offered a six month trial offer of premium movie chanels and the NFL Sunday Ticket at only $2 per month extra. I verified that if I cancelled within the six months the "extras" would be dropped and and there would be no additional charges abover the $2 per month. I even called back and verified this information. In early December I called to cancel the promotional service and was then told I would be charged a prorated monthly amount (a percentage of the $59 dollar charge) for the Sunday Ticket. I protested and and after speaking to untold numbers of people was promised the charge would be deleted and that I should wait until January 4, 2010 to officially ancelt the promotion. I called today only to be told the chartge was still there and there was no way I could avoid paying the extra. At no time did I officially order the Sunday Ticket and called , as they told me within, the six months...yet therre is styill this charge. There is no way that a person can contact anyone of authority at Direct TV....not even a proper way to reach them ( apart from the postage stamp sized box which is not large en ough to detail a real problem). I feel angry and deceived and the only ace I have is to cancel my service altogether which I will do since I am out of contract. Direct TV claims "excellence" in service. Not only do they not understand the world service they are also clueless about excellence.
I just ordered the nba package an out of 12 games on i only could get 1. So i call direct tv and told them that i just order and paid $180.00 10mins ago they told me they could not help me. So i paid $180 bucks and no service. This is robbery i wish there was so justice.

NOT TRUE any of it except the actual service. Called to cancel and was told I had to have canceled in 24 hours and it had been 27. Fought with them for 4 weeks and after 3 (3!) BBB complaints, the office of the presidency finally called me. they reviewed my original call and realized they were wrong and everything they told me was a lie. They agreed to let me out of the contract but are still forcing me to pay the bill for the services that I did not want!! they cant eat the 1 bill when they have all the records showing how much I fought this and did not want this b/c it was all a lie!! Now they say I have to pay the bill that I was forced to have in b/c they have NO ESCALATION PATH and the ONLY way to get any traction is to file BBB complaints. I will be filing complaints everyday until they listen, I should not have to pay for a service I didnt want and was forced to keep. Direct TV seemed to be good for the move and new cable I wanted to put in the house. They had a decent offer for HD (less than Comcast, but more than Dish). They came to install and did not complete the job thoroughly. The following day, the customer service line rang to inform me that I was misquoted on my service. Apparently they don't offer HD contracts on a 12 month service time, it must be 24 months. Nice to know AFTER it was already installed...remember though, improperly (the wrong cable wire was used). So, I decided that I did not want to continue with them because I did not want a 24 month contract and they wouldn't work with me. Good time to lose a customer in these economic days!! Since then (first week of November) I have been charged $460. Not just that, but it was on autopay which I never approved and it came directly out of my checking account. I have spoken with no less than 15 people (I have all the names and ID numbers) in regards to getting my money back. I have written the President of the company with no response. I have written the VP of the company with no response. Today is December 16th and I still do not have my money back. I was told that I would have it in 5-7 business days. I waited 10 and when that didn't happen, I called back. I was then informed that I should expect the money between the 12th and 14th of this month. Again, its the 16th and no money!!! So, I called today. The new thing is that now I need to wait because its going to be put back into my account with two installments. Funny, they can take it all out in one nice swoop, but can't put it back...Someone please help me!!!!

I agree with the class action suit!! Until enough customers complain and have something done about the poor treatment of the PAYING customers, nothing will be done. Yes, something like this should be regulated by the BBB or Attorney General or whomever is in a position to help in a way that will make a difference. This is ridiculous! I once called to ask if I could pay my bill in two days (when I got my paycheck). I was told the service would be interrupted if I did not pay it that day and that they only give an extension once every six months. I'd not previously asked for an extension and we're talking two days here; not two weeks! I was absolutely appalled at the customer service rep's lack of professionalism. I have no number or email address for contacting anyone but I will certainly try writing a letter and/or sending an email to the addresses obtained here in this forum. We all have to stick together in fighting this. I've considered Dish Network but don't know if it would be any better and Cable in this area usually is more than satellite TV! What's a person to do?!
My uncle is being charged $422.99 for an "early cancellation" fee by DirectTV. He lives in an apartment building and the owner of the building removed the dish without warning. direct tv direct up ur u know what. had snow storm in denver 10/27-10/28 tv signal went out 10/27 thought it was just snow on dish. wife and i to leave on a cruise 10/29. had no tv to watch weather forcast. calling airlines periodacally kept up with weather and flight time and left late but got out to florida to catch our ship. now the really good part. our daughter & grandson stayed at our house to watch and take care of our dogs and cats. she called customer service and they were no help at all. they told her because her name was not the account holder they could not help her, so for 12 days they had no tv entertainment at all. they had right address and there lame excuse was who would pay for service call when all they had to do was add to bill next month. like i would not want it fixed and just pay them every month. i went with direct tv cause of a bundle package with quest however i havent saved very much, the picture quality is not that good, the signal goes in and out and not this. all i can say is when contract is up i will be returning to dish network where qualit,y service, and understanding is what they are about.
we canceled service with direct tv and was told to return the eqt, they sent out two boxes on the afternoon of 10-22-09. On the instructions it stated to be returned in seven days meaning to be recived by wed 28th. Monday on the 26th we checked are bank account , and to are shock we found that direct tv had taken out $470.00 dollars for eqt not returned. Well by now the word PISSED is a underststement! we both call and we both get two different answers, but nothing as quick as we needed to keep are account from going belly-up, one said with in 72 hrs and the other said up to six weeks. I've been trying for a month to get $160 back that should never have been deducted from my account. I was surprised to find out that because I had made an online pmt, Direct TV could just go in and take out what they wanted for a final pmt. Should have read the fine print I guess!! They took out way too much and now are giving me the run around about giving it back. I've had many stories depending on which representative I talk with. Last story I heard this morning was 60 days. Not impressed at all with them. I've been told it would be credited back to bank acct, that a check was in the mail. None of which has been true.
i set up a bundelo package through verizon they told me i needed 200 dollar deposit so i called them back a week later and gave them the deposit to get my direct tv turned on they set up a date the next day a technician came and turned it on a couple hours later i had problems with it and called for help then they turned it off saying theres a past due amount if thats the case then how can they except a deposit and not refund it for that is there mistake and not mine for i dont remember ever having direct tv before
when you sign up for direct tv, you have to sign a contract, which DTV holds you to. You pick your package and then they can change the package when ever they want. Without even telling you. I thought a contract was for both parties. I will never again use Direct Tv, even if there is nothing else to watch. This is my second time with them and I should have learned from the first time.
Never did business with a company that has such arrogant employees in "customer service" They are attempting to extort money from our account. They claim our contract was automatically extentended another 18 months when we had an HD Box delivered.They refuse to provide us with a signiture or recording of either my husband or myself agreeing to this contract extension. I have contact to almost 15,000 individuals through work family and friends which I'll be contacting, in addition to "Help Me Howard", "Al Sunshine", "Carmel Carfero" Florida State Department of Fraud,Consumers Affairs and last but not least Florida Department of Fraud. I"m trying to warn those of you who have no idea what you're in for. In todays economy, my goal is to try to put them out of business and have their arrogant employees wait on an unemployment line. About wrong cancellation fees I think that this is the time to place a big and massive message to the public in Internet, in the way that many people can see it to prevent them to get this service. If as a consequence of that the sales drop for Direct TV I'm sure that they will change mind and do not take more many from the customers. I'm sure about one thing, the owner of Direct TV is not an American.
Hello everyone, I have same problems with direct TV company.I was their client for over 1 year, but then I wanted to switch HD and get DVR, so I been told they need 2 cables to get to my roof.So we did with my husband,than technician came and connected everything-he told us-he called Tv and I agree, but did not check if everything is workingBut evening my husband came home and saw cable hanging from TV to floor(unconnected),we foung out it was from DVR, so we call company again to come over and connect the cable.Another technician came and left telling us he does not know how to connect, so we call again 3rd technician came and told us he needs one more cable to the roof to connect everythink.We refused, because we did not want make openings in my walls again(we just repaired them),so I said if you can not deliver service you promised I am canceling your service,because you lied to me.They later slapped me with early disconnection fee $290,which i refused to pay.I wrote 2 letters to their headquaters, but nothing helped,they srewedup my credit.I dont know what to do...this nightmare is over 1 year,collection agency is calling me every day...Help Eva
as with all my brothers and sisters on the above horror list, I've been robbed before but not to this extent! I've yet to have anyone at dtv help me. my cables from the dish run down my house and threw my door. I had to redo all my cables just to get my door to shut. never have i ever paid what i was quoted, always more!!! I never got my three months free hbo & showtime. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO QUALITY PRODUCTS & SERVICE IN THE USA.
They are crooks and need to be stopped. I put a $250.00 deposit on the account through Verizon (I dont have the best credit score) and decided that the service just wasnt for me. I cancelled my service thinking that they were going to just keep my security deposit but to my suprise, they sent me an early cancellation bill for $241.00. I spoke to a rep and he told me that It was an error and that I would be refunded the differece, connected me to someone else which told me the same amd the following week, I received another bill for $241.00 again. I sent them a copy of my banking statement and wrote me some bogus statement that they have reviewed the account and have determined that I still we them the money. It's as if this company could do whatever the hell they can do and the unsusecting consumer just has to take what this company and others like them has to throw at us. They should be better regulated and the consumers rights protecting from these types of unscrupulous companies. There really should be a class action lawsuit brought against these legalized criminals.
After reading the many complaints I fully agree they evaluations about the quality of their Customer Service. They are either inept or totally corrupt .They overcharged my credit card 5 different times for service not poerformed but all they would say it is the cutomers responsibility to check that the charges are correct!!!!Regardless how long you have been a customer if you like an additional receiver you must pay for it to include installation fee.They will sell you one but no one will tell you that your contract has just been extended 18 additional months. I hope that I be able to get out of the contract without aditiona charges after my two year contract expieres. I have talked to the presidents office ,but the lady basically told me "so what"
Ok....here is my situation I have been with DirectTV for 15 years and I want to upgrade my equipment and get recievers for my other 2 TV's! I called cust service and was informed that since I am an existing cust I would have to pay approximately $250-$300 for the same equipment a new cust can recieve for free! I find that very unsettling and wrong! I can only recieve Satelite signal, no cable where I live! I have been thinking of switching to Dish Network, but I looked up there cust service issues and believe me they have just as many complaints as DirectTV does! But I could get everything I want for free and for about $10 cheaper a month then DirectTV is charging me now! But based on what some cust of Dish Network say....I'd be better off staying with DirectTV! I just don't have the cash to pay for the upgrades! What's a person to do? Any advice? Thanks
After having my house damaged two seperat times by Direct Stat here in Pittsburgh, PA which is the installers for Direct TV. They had damaged my house on two seperate occasions. The first damage claim was settled and the second I was told that the first will cover the second seperate incident. There were two seperate contractors fixing the two seperate damages at two different days. 1st was 800.00 paid by Direct TV insurance company. The second of 900.00 I am being told too bad and thank you for paying for the damages we caused. No luck with the office of the President

Have been a customer for 3 years. My husband and I are also on a fixed income. Our landlord replaced siding on our residence and the stupid workers who also work for the landlord decided they needed to move the dish slightly in order to afix the siding so it would not leak. I have from day one been paying for a protection plan which OF COURSE did not cover this. I was told since I have been a customer for so long that this would be a one time NO CHARGE service call, and to expect a service technician tomorrow, Thursday, July 2,2009 between 8AM and 12PM. We will see. I will raise holy hell if not, because my husband is a recent amputee and this is his only entertainment. I told the representative who is in Texas (I am in Georgia) that I hoped she was being truthful, asked her name and who to call if no one came. She was extremely polite and apolegetic for the lengthy call as she was gathering information. Thing is I would have had no number to call if my local electic company did not handle payments. They provided me with a number to talk to an actual person. Hope I don't wind up on the growing band wagon with the rest of consumers.
My reciever went out, less then a year old, and they want me to pay the shipping charges. Why should I pay the shipping charges for them to replace a defective receiver that I lease?

Direct TV is using underhanded methods to get you to sign contracts. About two months ago I upgraded to HD. They sent a tech to install...I signed the techs work order only to find out later it was a contract for 24 months. I would never have knowingly signed it...I am a disabled veteran and live on a fixed income...now I am having to pay $60 a month for TV that I can't afford due to other medical bills. Just doesn't seem right to me.
They are very deceitful here's my story I had their service for about two years and a receiver that I own went bad a replacement and said there would be no charge what they didn't tell you is that they're sticking you with an 18 month contract I will never do business with them again and I recommend nobody else does business with him I believe in the future if they have problems it's of their own making

Direct TV is like stepping back 20 years. 5/8 seconds between channel switching each command is a push on the remote witch may or may not work. did not receive the price I was quoted. I am contacting Colorado BBB. Direct TV is a rip off and don't deliver the service they offer or the price. Richard.

PLEASE FORGIVE ALL THE CAPS, BUT @ 76 Y O, MY EYESIGHT IS NOT WHAT IT WAS. ALL YOUR POSTS MIRROR MY DEALINGS WITH DIRECT TV, AND SINCE COSTCO WILL NOT HELP, WILL CONTACT THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THE CONTRACT I RECEIVED TODAY IS A LAWYERS DREAM, AND I WILL DISCONTINUE THE TELEPHONE COMPLAINTS. FOOL THAT I WAS, THOUGHT IF COSTCO HAD IT, NO PROBLEM.
I, like the gentleman above am 72yrs old and my wife and I are retired and on a fixed income. Last yr one of my daughters was diognosed bi-polar(at the age of 47)and lost her job,car and apartment and was forced to move back home so I added another reciever for her bedroom and after being a Directv customer for 9yrs,was not advised of being under a new committment for an another 18mos.In April2009 they raised my bill again for the second time this year,so when I called customer service all they could tell me that the premium could be raised at the 1st of the year.I switched to Dish and on my Credit Card I found that they had charged my account $270 dollars even tho I had a credit balance of $71.27.I filed a protest with CapitolOne but I still don't know how they got my account number. over the years I have had many issues with directv(to many to mention)so all I can say to the people considering directv is BUYER BEWARE!!!
My wife and I are old and retired, the most exciting tv we watch is NASCAR and Animal Planet. Last month we received our bill, four (4) Adult Films had been rented and charged to our account. I did succeed in having those charges removed. This month we were billed for five (5) adult movies. No one has been in our house but us so I know we did not order this trash the only thing I can think of is we were hacked or someone has our account number and info and they are ordering and charging to our account. I got no where with the customer service. She Nikki, said we ordered we have to pay. We have a limited income and it will take me awhile to pay for trash but I am now looking to another provider. Customer service refused to understand, it wasn't us, we should not have to pay for something we did not get. We have been a customer of theirs for years and I usually have to call them half dozen times a year because they overbill me, this one is TOO much. They peddle this smut and old people like us pay for it. This makes me sick. I could have bought a weeks groceries for what it will cost me to pay for this. I know someone has hacked my system, they won't listen. Either that or someone is watching and billing to me. I had it shut off so no one can, but they told me I could be billed for more if its on my card, good grief, this is terrible.
