How to Impress Your Parents Right Now

Built by Nathalie Lussier on Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

This may or may not be something that every teen wants or even needs to do, but it is something that every teen should learn nonetheless. How to impress your parents: it’s not as hard as it may seem. Parents want to see you succeed in life and they want you to be happy with yourself and with friends and maybe a boyfriend or girlfriend. If you’ve done something wrong or to upset them, you might want to try to tip the scale back and make them even more proud of you for a few short moments at least. Read on to find out more about how to impress your parents, or make them less mad at you at the very least.

The first thing you should do to impress your parents is find out what is important to them. Maybe they are very busy people and they don’t have time to cook when they get home from work, so for you to go out of your way to cook a meal for them would really impress and honor them. If you’re not sure how to go about making them a nice meal, there are plenty of web sites on the internet with some nice romantic or just plain delicious recipes on them. Or if your parents love spending time together you could consider saving your allowance up to buy them an evening out or maybe a hotel room. It all depends on your budget of course.

On the other hand, if you can’t quite figure out what your parents would really appreciate, then you might want to do something that makes all parents happy and proud: do well in school. It might seem kind of cliche or even stupid, but if you apply yourself in school and get good grades your parents will be very proud of you and very happy for you. This will in turn give them a pat on the back, for raising such a great teenager and making sure that they will succeed in life. But if you do get your school grades up, try to keep them up. A sudden spike in your grades is great, but if they drop back down after awhile your parents will wonder what happened and they will be on your case to find out.

If your school grades are already high, then why not make something special for your parents. It can be a simple”I love you mom” and “I love you dad” card. Or it could be a hand made card that has a few “credits” for you to do house work for them. For example you could decide to give your parents 10 hours of your time, for them to choose how to use it. They might make you mow the lawn 10 times, or they might make you spend time with them more often. Another thing that parents like is to spend time with you, after all you are they child and they do want to get to know you better.

So just get closer to your parents and enjoy their company. You can learn a lot about their lives and they will have great advice to give you too! Find more great teen advice.

Look, maybe you're just exaggerating a bit. At least we all hope so. If not, then talk to your father about your feelings and actually FOLLOW YOUR SISTER AS AN EXAMPLE, which clearly you aren't doing already.

I have handycapped sister so my mom gets stresed out a lot so it is hectic around the house. My mom yells for me a lot so when I am doing something I get pulled away from it a lot.So one time I was annoyed from being pulled away from what I was doing so I said while running to her I said what now ,and she yelled at me.What should I do?

    • Jay says:

Look, I think I'm the person you need to hear from right now. I have a handicapped sibling, too. He has Cerebral Palsy and can't walk, so he's really dependent on me as well as my mother. Don't get me wrong, my mom IS crabby, but I honestly don't think it's because of his disabilities. Maybe it just comes with being a parent. And anyways, was it really necessary to add all that handicapped mumbo-jumbo? Maybe, but the bottom line is, your mom yelled at you. She snapped. So what? I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me with my mom, and you deem it important enough to write about on here? Get over it, please. No offense.

  7. Vanessa says:

Hi Jordan...this is what I think. We all know that homework is one of those things that we all get to do to go to like college and stuff and to keep our rents happy...we know that. so i just do my hw as soon as i get home from school and its done and out of the way so i can do watever i want the rest of the day. i just dont want to be one of those kids that never goes to college and ends up flipping hamburgers all day...and i don't think that anyone really wants that deep down. everything i do today determines if i'm going to make it waht i want to do tomorrow. that's just what i think.

I just got a C+ on my math test but I'm kind of scared to tell my parents because I always get A's. I am just going to get it over with and hope that she will not get as mad. Im kind of nervous tho. But yea, honesty is the best policy because they will see you as more responsible

The best thing to do is tell the truth my problem is that I want to learn and stuff but my friends are quite stupid an they sort of distract me I don't want to be like them! in my situation I wud tell my parents 'I am really guilty its just that some times I get dragged in with the wrong people and don't listen in class I'm really sorry it's just so distracting for me' remember honesty is the best policy
