There can be several reasons for needing to replace your old bathtub. Since older tubs can be quite heavy you might want to consider having a professional do the work. Should you decide to tackle the job yourself, and then grab a friend because this will be a bit involved. Getting the old one out isn’t too bad, but knowing how to install a bathtub is essential. After all, what’s the point of taking it out if you can’t get the new one in.
Firstly, make sure that the new tub will fit into the space your old tub came out of. This means that not only should the size be right, but you need to see to any plumbing concerns the new tub might bring about. If the old tub and the new tub have the same type of connections, then this shouldn’t be too difficult.
If they are the same as far as the hook-ups go, then simply set the new tub in place and re-attach your plumbing. Check for leaks before you finish up. Do this by keeping the faucets shut off and turning the water supply back on. When the water is on check for any leaks and fix immediately. If not then go ahead and get the drain and overflow assemblies installed. Seal the drain with plumber’s putty to assure a good fit.
Once that’s done, you will need to check the tub for level. Keep in mind that tubs are manufactured with a slight tilt to allow for proper drainage. Set your level on the top edge of the tub and shim as necessary. When its level, do any repairs to the surrounding walls and seal the entire outer edge with caulk. While the caulk is setting up you can begin the clean-up process. For more ideas on bathtubs visit us at www.BathtubReviews.com.
