How To Maintain Optimal Health

Health is the term that is talked commonly nowadays like never before. Health comprises multiple concepts of physical, mental and social well being. Health is also a much debated topic. And yet another thing, there is no single yard stick or standard criteria that sets the boundaries of health and illness level.



Health industry is one of the fastest growing industries. Usually money rumbles out of the health care industry. The products that are developed under this industry are focused at one thing, which is to provide health. There are millions of products out there. There is a large sum of money flowing out quick as people are ready to shell out their hard earned money. The health conscious people end up in buying these products hoping to befit out of it. These health products also create a strong sham that these products will bring up ‘health” no matter how their health habits are or unhealthy life style. In order to have optimal health it is therefore necessary to change the health habits or unhealthy life style. In medicine, it is a fact that environment has a strong influence in a person’s health. Here are some of the basic things that will help you to have a better health and lead a productive life.

1) Diet

Our body needs nutrients adequate both in quantity and quality to survive. Taking excessive or less nutrients is harmful, as the homeostasis is disrupted. To be specific our body needs certain nutrients more and frequent than the other. And there are even certain groups of nutrients that the body cannot synthesize on its own. These nutrients should be supplied to the body through our daily diet. One example of such nutrient is “essential amino acids”.

Take foods that are natural and whole some. Limit taking fast foods that are highly processed. Some of forms of carbohydrates that are highly processed tend to stick on tooth easily and removal of it takes extra effort. These sticky food items cause dental problems such as halitosis or bad breath, dental carries and periodontal disease or pyorrhea.

Don’t skip your break fast. Skipping break fast regularly affects your health. There is research that claims that break fast would cut risk of developing heart attack. Avoid having snacks in between meals. It increases the work load of pancreas to secrete more insulin.

Taking adequate diet ensures that you maintain optimal weight for your height or age. There are various types of scales available. Be familiar with the energy requirement for your age and type of work you do. Check your weight every month. Know your basal mass index. These are the things that indicate where you are now and where you are moving towards. You may consult a dietary book that contains all information about food and various functions of them. You may also like to visit a dietician if you are interested.

2) Exercise

Our body needs to be tuned and shaped. Exercises go hand in hand with balanced diet in shaping the perfect you. There are lots of exercises, you can master quickly. These exercises burn the extra calorie and increase the oxygen supply in your body. Lot of modern day disease that catch up easily in younger days such as heart attack, diabetes mellitus, and obesity would be prevented by exercising regularly.

3) Life style changes

Life style also plays a considerable part in development of certain disease. Frequent use of tobacco is concerned with oral cancers and in yet another case, it is observed that commercial sex workers are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer. So what does it imply? It simply means the certain harmful elements in the environment which we are in constant touch throughout our life are responsible for development of cancer. Use of

alcohol should be limited. Still there is no proven thing that causes cancer but there are certain things which are considered carcinogens. Our part is to keep our selves away from these things. We should be careful that these products are not used by us. Modify your life style that you have only a minimum exposure to these elements.

Certain life style changes you can do are: Quit smoking, limit your alcohol intake, curb your intake of fast foods, exercise regularly, make sure your diet has adequate anti- oxidants such as – fresh fruits and vegetables, take lot of water, spend less time before your TV and of course before computer, if you are over weight reduce your weight. Always maintain straight posture while sitting (even in your work place).

These are the practical tips which keep you going and keep diseases at bay. Gaining knowledge about what causes disease helps us conscious about health, improve how we perceive health, help us to avoid those things and ultimately cut short the medical expenses associated with diseases.
