Bulimia is an eating disorder that is becoming more and more common. You cannot deny the influence of the media as one of the causes of bulimia due to their constant portrayal of body images that are unrealistic and difficult to attain.

If you have a bulimia eating disorder, you suffer both in the mind and the body. You often feel depressed and have a poor self-image. Physically, a bulimia eating disorder can cause many problems throughout your body, up to, and including, death.

As a bulumic, you have two options when it comes to dealing with your condition – either seek help or allowing the disorder to waste your body away. The statistical chance of success appears good with counseling and therapy. Studies show that eighty percent of all sufferers successfully eliminate their disorder. Unfortunately, many relapse, and in this article, it is important that you learn about how to prevent a bulimia relapse.

The first tip is that you should refrain from getting too hungry. While you shouldn’t be eating all the time, if you restrict yourself heavily, you may be all the more likely to binge eat. Studies have shown that when someone is undergoing a serious diet, they are much more likely to binge eat.

Secondly, certain foods are really unhealthy and you should not eat them as much. Also, do not make these foods as taboo. When you make one of your favorite foods unattainable, you may find more and more drawn to it. Instead, cut down the portion size of the food that you are lusting for.

Prevent yourself from pigging out by avoiding places where you tend to eat by the mouthful. These may include buffets or fast food restaurants where you have a habit of upsizing your meals.

If the urge to binge and purge is overwhelming you, and you feel that you can’t resist, try restraining yourself for thirty minutes. In that time, use some positive visualization techniques. Imagine how and what you would feel if you overcome bingeing. Imagine the happiness and the health that you will enjoy when you no longer have a bulimia eating disorder.

Lastly, it is important to have fun within your life. Try to do at least one thing per day that puts you into a good mood. A bulimia eating disorder is a tough problem to overcome and the mental strain that it places upon you can be difficult to deal with. Still, if you find yourself unable to overcome bulimia and you think that a relapse is imminent, speak to a physician or a counselor immediately. They can help to provide you with personalized answers to your questions and feelings that can make the difference between healthy habits and relapsing into bulimia once again.
