How To Start Writing

Built by Britt Malka on Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Sitting there where an empty white “paper” in front of you? How do you start! Read on if you want to write an article, or perhaps a chapter in a book.

First thing to remember: A white paper does not pose a threat, but it’s an opportunity, a world of free choices.

The first thing you need to do before starting to write is to know what to write about. You have to have an idea, a theme or a subject. Make a brainstorming, if you don’t already know what to write about.

When you’ve got it, write it down.

There, you see? You’ve started without even knowing it ;-)

Next thing is to make the structure. I found out in high school that in order to write an essay really fast (because deadline was the next morning) I had to start with the structure, the synopsis.

In order to make the synopsis write down all the mayor headlines with plenty of room between them.

Next thing is to fill out the space between the headlines. You jot down keywords and notes that you should write about in that paragraph. Believe me – the headlines are not enough. I’ve often been too lazy and just wrote the headlines, but when it came to do the actual writing, I hadn’t the slightest idea about what I were thinking about, when I wrote down that particular headline. Always make notes between them.

You’re almost done. Now you know all about what you will write, you have the structure, and you have a clear idea about the text. You only need to write it down using real sentences, so that other people will also be able to understand, what you mean.
